It seems as if my ipod nano 2g FLT is damaged every time i restart it. it gives me this error could not load iloader theme. it was probably deleted. please choose an option below: 09:58 < HelpMe_Pls> 1. Uninstall iloader 2. enter disk mode 3. quit iloader 4. power off 09:58 < HelpMe_Pls> if I try and uninstall it loops and I cant get into disk mode 10:00 < TheSeven> hmm 10:01 < TheSeven> do you know what caused it? how did you trigger that? 10:02 < TheSeven> and what exactly happens? it's doing an FTL check/recovery on every reboot, and then showing you that "can't find theme" screen? 10:09 < HelpMe_Pls> I restored the ipod using itunes I then installed the latest iLoader after that I unpacked the latest RockBox for the nano 2nd gen. All worked fine I could get into RockBox I Then transfered some mp3's to a folder on the root of my ipod as soon as I updated the database and restarted this errror happened 10:13 < HelpMe_Pls> it is doing a FTL check/recovery on every reboot and then shows me this error. If I enter on quit iloader I get this FTL seems to be damaged. Forcing Check.Scanning flash. Invalid block type FF while reading vPage 1987328 FTL recovery failed.Use disk mode to recover 10:14 < HelpMe_Pls> But I cant get into disk mode :-( 10:14 < TheSeven> what happens if you try to get into disk mode? 10:16 < HelpMe_Pls> it gets a white screen and then reboots 10:16 < TheSeven> uh oh 10:17 < HelpMe_Pls> same happens if I try to uninstall it loops 10:17 < TheSeven> and all this started after you shut down the ipod *cleanly* from within rockbox? 10:17 < TheSeven> uninstall can't work until the FTL is recovered, which disk mode should normally do 10:17 < TheSeven> if disk mode fails to recover that, the apple bootloader would also have failed, which isn't good news at all 10:18 < HelpMe_Pls> yes after I updated the music database in rock box it needed to restart after restaring this happened 10:18 < TheSeven> so there was no reset by holding menu+select involved at that point? 10:19 < HelpMe_Pls> I did use menu+select to reset after the database was updated and needed restarting 10:20 < TheSeven> Farthen: another mulenmar issue? 10:20 < TheSeven> HelpMe_Pls: that wasn't a good idea at all 10:21 < TheSeven> you should have shut it down cleanly by holding the play button, not reset it forcibly 10:21 < HelpMe_Pls> Trust me 10:21 < TheSeven> so it's at least clear where the ftl damage is coming from, however I have no idea why disk mode fails to repair it 10:22 < TheSeven> usually it will try to recover the FTL, and if that fails just wipe everything away and reinitialize 10:22 < HelpMe_Pls> Trust me to brick a ipod 2nd gen. 10:22 < TheSeven> i've only seen a single case until now where this happened, where there was some hardware problem involved 10:23 < TheSeven> "this" being disk mode failing to even wipe away the ftl 10:23 < HelpMe_Pls> so you think its hardware related 10:23 < TheSeven> i'm not sure about that 10:24 < TheSeven> as the trigger was apparently a software-side problem 10:24 < TheSeven> but i'm afraid that this won't be fixable easily. it will at least involve installing a bunch of tools and poking at the flash more directly 10:25 < HelpMe_Pls> got any urls for the tools needed 10:27 < TheSeven> assuming you're on windows, you'll need to install python 2.6, the most recent pyusb release, and some winusb driver 10:27 < TheSeven> you'll also need a checkout of our SVN 10:27 < TheSeven> if you're on windows 7, you'll probably have to do a bootloader patch to allow loading unsigned drivers 10:28 < HelpMe_Pls> Thanks TheSeven Ill goodle all of the information you have just given me starting with Python 2.6 10:29 < HelpMe_Pls> Iv got my fingers crossed 10:32 < HelpMe_Pls> Lastly whats a SVN and where can I check it out 10:40 < TheSeven> http://svn.freemyipod.org/embios/trunk 10:40 < TheSeven> if you don't want to install an svn client, just download the following files and place them into some folder: 10:40 < TheSeven> http://svn.freemyipod.org/embios/trunk/tools/embios.py 10:40 < TheSeven> http://svn.freemyipod.org/embios/trunk/tools/embiosldr.py 10:41 < TheSeven> http://svn.freemyipod.org/embios/trunk/tools/libembios.py 10:41 < TheSeven> http://svn.freemyipod.org/embios/trunk/tools/libembiosdata.py 10:41 < TheSeven> http://svn.freemyipod.org/embios/trunk/tools/libembiosldr.py 10:50 < HelpMe_Pls> Thank TheSeven being a programer my self Ill install Python and check what these files are all about. I more than likely will do this after work and let you know. 10:50 < TheSeven> ok 11:27 -!- HelpMe_Pls [298557f7@gateway/web/freenode/ip.41.133.87.247] has quit [Quit: Page closed] --- Log opened Tue Oct 05 14:52:52 2010 14:52 -!- fmibot [~fmibot@static.225.178.40.188.clients.your-server.de] has joined #freemyipod-support 16:07 -!- HelpMe_Pls [29d57e07@gateway/web/freenode/ip.41.213.126.7] has joined #freemyipod-support 16:10 < HelpMe_Pls> Im Back I have gotten further I now have the following on my iPod Entered recovery mode.
