It was probably deleted..." 16:22 < TheSeven> you didn't delete the iloader folder? 16:22 < martin___> no 16:22 < TheSeven> hm 16:22 < martin___> I can choose to go into disk mode 16:22 < martin___> but nothing happens, just reboots 16:23 < TheSeven> uh oh 16:23 < TheSeven> if you reboot it, does it say something about flash problems? 16:23 < martin___> and I cannot restore the firmware via iTunes 16:23 < martin___> yes 16:24 < TheSeven> if you chose "quit iloader", you'll see the embios console 16:24 < martin___> "the FTL seems to be damaged..." 16:24 < TheSeven> does it complain about an "invalid block type FF" or something similar? 16:24 < martin___> yes, exactly 16:24 < TheSeven> what is the page number? 16:25 < TheSeven> you're apparently the fourth one to get trapped by this nasty bug, and i still haven't fully figured out what is going on... 16:25 < martin___> vPage 910080 16:25 < TheSeven> hm, this isn't the trivial version of the problem then 16:26 < martin___> I can try to explain in more detail what happened 16:26 < TheSeven> when did you install rockbox? 16:26 < martin___> I deleted the iPod_COntrol directory and then reinitialized the database 16:26 < TheSeven> only just now, or some time ago? 16:26 < martin___> and was asked to reboot 16:27 < martin___> yesterday 16:27 < TheSeven> ouch 16:27 < martin___> I rebooted with menu+select 16:27 < TheSeven> you shouldn't have done that 16:27 < TheSeven> menu+select reboots are only a last-resort option if it can't be shut down normally (by holding play) 16:27 < martin___> I was guessing that this was the problem 16:28 < TheSeven> but nevertheless this shouldn't cause this kind of trouble 16:28 < martin___> can I use the soldering trick mentioned on the website? 16:28 < TheSeven> that won't help you 16:29 < TheSeven> this just allows to gain control of a fully unresponsive device again 16:29 < TheSeven> which isn't the case here 16:29 < TheSeven> basically what happened is that rockbox wrote some data to the flash but didn't properly unmount the flash, causing emBIOS to detect an unclean shutdown after the reboot 16:30 < TheSeven> emBIOS then tried to fix that, and the fixing code has a bug, which i just fixed yesterday 16:31 < TheSeven> this might cause it to corrupt even more data on the flash 16:31 < TheSeven> which in turn seems to confuse disk mode enough to fail to repair it 16:32 < TheSeven> after that menu+select reset it started to scan and fix the flash, right? 16:32 < martin___> yes 16:32 < TheSeven> did it succeed and bring up the boot menu again at that point? 16:33 < martin___> I remember that it entered disk mode for a moment 16:33 < martin___> and then it rebooted again ore something like that 16:35 < TheSeven> did it complain about a missing theme immediately after that first FTL check, or did it boot up normally again? 16:37 < martin___> yes, I think so 16:37 < TheSeven> was this the first time ever that you did a menu+select reset after installing iloader? 16:37 < TheSeven> or at least the first time you noticed an FTL check running on boot? 16:38 < martin___> actually I restared with menu+select almost every time 16:38 < martin___> and this was obviously my mistake 16:39 < TheSeven> still it may not cause such behavior if everthing works right 16:39 < TheSeven> so did it ever do an FTL check before? 16:40 < martin___> now thta you mention it, I think it did a chec kevery time I did a menu+select, but it managed to recover 16:41 < martin___> except the last time obviously 16:42 < martin___> windows device manager shows the ipod as an USB device 16:43 < martin___> with a question mark, i.e. with no drivers 16:44 < TheSeven> yes 16:44 < TheSeven> hm, so that FTL fixing code had enough time to completely break the FTL 16:45 < TheSeven> i'm wondering if i should write a tool to completely dump the flash contents... 16:48 < martin___> let me know if i can help debug the issue 16:49 < TheSeven> what storage capacity does your ipod have? 16:49 < martin___> 2G 16:49 < martin___> GB 16:50 < TheSeven> ok 16:51 < TheSeven> while i'm wondering what to do, you can already try to install some tools 16:51 < TheSeven> i assume you're using windows? 16:51 < martin___> yes 16:52 < TheSeven> http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.6.6/python-2.6.6.msi 16:53 < TheSeven> http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/pyusb/PyUSB%201.0/1.0.0-alpha-0/pyusb-1.0.0-a0.zip?r=http%3A%2F%2Fsourceforge.net%2Fprojects%2Fpyusb%2Ffiles%2F&ts=1288025574&use_mirror=mesh 16:53 < TheSeven> extract the latter, start a cmd, cd into the extracted directory and run "setup.py install" 16:53 < martin___> ok 16:54 < TheSeven> are you using windows 7? 16:55 < martin___> no, XP 16:56 < martin___> ok, done 17:13 < martin___> it's getting late over here 17:14 < martin___> let me know if i can be of assistance for this issue 17:14 < martin___> martin.borisov@abv.bg 17:14 < martin___> see ya 17:15 -!- martin___ [4d464557@gateway/web/freenode/ip.77.70.69.87] has quit [Quit: Page closed] 18:12 -!- dd8ne [54395e03@gateway/web/freenode/ip.84.57.94.3] has joined #freemyipod-support 18:13 < dd8ne> Good evening 18:16 < dd8ne> so I'm back with my broken nano2G and a new minihub ;-) 18:17 -!- S_a_i_n_t [S_a_i_n_t@203.184.3.208] has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds] 18:23 -!- S_a_i_n_t [S_a_i_n_t@203.184.0.29] has joined #freemyipod-support 18:23 < TheSeven> bad news... now we have a total of 4 ipods in that weird state like yours 18:24 < TheSeven> and we're still poking in the dark... 18:25 < dd8ne> so.. that's a good news... so my iPod isn't dead.
