Today I got the same problem as others where Rockbox is working perfectly fine, but then somehow seems to be uninstalled. So, I went to the discussion page for the Classic installation, and popped open my favourite hex editor 05:25 < residentriot> I did everything correctly... except I shaved off the first 9 bytes instead of 8 because I can't count. 05:25 < residentriot> It's stuck booting and won't shut down or restart and doesn't catch that I've plugged it in via USB. 05:25 < residentriot> ....What next? 07:55 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has joined #freemyipod-support 08:21 -!- residentriot [~NapalmRio@h69-21-75-250.orchmo.dsl.dynamic.tds.net] has quit [Quit: HydraIRC -> http://www.hydrairc.com <- Would you like to know more?] 10:53 -!- asmmonkey [~asmmonkey@32.Red-83-51-129.dynamicIP.rima-tde.net] has joined #freemyipod-support 11:07 -!- asmmonkey [~asmmonkey@32.Red-83-51-129.dynamicIP.rima-tde.net] has quit [Quit: mov pc, lr] 11:46 -!- asmmonkey [~asmmonkey@32.Red-83-51-129.dynamicIP.rima-tde.net] has joined #freemyipod-support 11:51 -!- benedikt93 [~benedikt9@unaffiliated/benedikt93] has joined #freemyipod-support 12:40 -!- asmmonkey [~asmmonkey@32.Red-83-51-129.dynamicIP.rima-tde.net] has quit [Quit: mov pc, lr] 13:50 -!- benedikt93 [~benedikt9@unaffiliated/benedikt93] has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds] 15:14 -!- user890104 [~Venci@6bez10.info] has joined #freemyipod-support 15:28 -!- benedikt93 [~benedikt9@unaffiliated/benedikt93] has joined #freemyipod-support 17:44 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has quit [Read error: No route to host] 17:46 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has joined #freemyipod-support 17:58 -!- nosaj [~nosaj@adsl-235-26-25.clt.bellsouth.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds] 17:58 -!- nosaj [~nosaj@adsl-235-26-25.clt.bellsouth.net] has joined #freemyipod-support 20:29 -!- residentriot [~NapalmRio@h69-21-75-250.orchmo.dsl.dynamic.tds.net] has joined #freemyipod-support 20:29 < residentriot> Hey, I came in here last night with that problem of rockbox disappearing 20:29 < residentriot> I deleted the first nine bytes instead of eight of rockbox.ipod, you know 20:29 < residentriot> cause I can't count? 20:30 < residentriot> So I let the battery die on me because it was stuck on the loading firmware screen, and now it goes into an infinite boot loop when I plug it in via USB. 20:30 < residentriot> What now? 20:36 -!- JR____ [63ea1c65@gateway/web/freenode/ip.99.234.28.101] has joined #freemyipod-support 21:04 -!- nosaj is now known as nosa- 21:11 -!- asmmonkey [~asmmonkey@32.Red-83-51-129.dynamicIP.rima-tde.net] has joined #freemyipod-support 21:26 -!- user890104 [~Venci@6bez10.info] has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds] 21:40 -!- UnconventionalT [4f08cf58@gateway/web/freenode/ip.79.8.207.88] has joined #freemyipod-support 21:43 < UnconventionalT> So, I'm sure that my iPod's in DFU mode now (it's essentially off, and won't boot back up.) However, when running UMSbootiPodClassic, it tells me that there is no iPod classic connected. Of course, using the instruction manual, it wants me to use the winusb drivers: Here lies the problem. How? 21:44 < UnconventionalT> Do I need to update the "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver"? 21:54 -!- benedikt93 [~benedikt9@unaffiliated/benedikt93] has quit [Quit: Bye ;)] 21:58 < TheSeven> yes, you need to replace that driver with ours 21:59 < UnconventionalT> Yeah, just got it working. I was going about it the wrong way, trying to install drivers that weren't there. 22:00 < UnconventionalT> TheSeven: Also, when I was updating the drivers, there were two selectable, while only the second one actually worked. I wonder why? 22:01 < TheSeven> did you use the full driver package, and throw it into the same folder as the small one? 22:01 < UnconventionalT> Yep. 22:03 < UnconventionalT> Hm, well windows really wants me to restart my computer now, so I'll be right back. 22:07 -!- UnconventionalT [4f08cf58@gateway/web/freenode/ip.79.8.207.88] has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds] 22:13 -!- UnconventionalT [~Clayton@host88-207-dynamic.8-79-r.retail.telecomitalia.it] has joined #freemyipod-support 22:14 < UnconventionalT> Finally back. 22:15 < UnconventionalT> Now, while my device is listed under freemyipod.org as an Apple Mobile Device USB Driver, I still can't seem to run UMSbootiPodClassic.... 22:16 -!- UnconT [4f08cf58@gateway/web/freenode/ip.79.8.207.88] has joined #freemyipod-support 22:16 -!- user890104 [~Venci@6bez10.info] has joined #freemyipod-support 22:17 < UnconventionalT> While I don't think it'll help, I'll first try instaling .NET 3.5... 22:17 -!- UnconT [4f08cf58@gateway/web/freenode/ip.79.8.207.88] has quit [Client Quit] 22:20 < UnconventionalT> According to the Device Manager, my iPod is using the proper dlls, and is in "iPod Recovery" mode... However the installer is still insisting that no iPod in connected... 22:27 < JR____> Are you shure its in DFU mode? Try unplugging the ipod. Reset the Ipod. Plug it back into your comp on a different usb port. Boot into DFU mode then load UMSbootiPodClassic 22:27 < UnconventionalT> Restarting. Apparently I'm having the same problem as "WolfTail" was having. 22:28 < UnconventionalT> JR____, I'll try that now... 22:28 < UnconventionalT> First thing that happens it iTunes starts... Closing that. 22:29 < UnconventionalT> Now I guess it's using Apples drivers now... 22:30 < JR____> now hold the menu+select button for about 10 to 15 sec until it looks like you ipod shut off & windows should recognize it as a new device then install the new drivers 22:33 < UnconventionalT> Yeah, iTunes starts up again, JR____ 22:35 < UnconventionalT> I closed it. And using UMSbootiPodClassic doesn't work. So I guess I have to reinstall winusb drivers for the iPod? 22:35 < JR____> you have to keep holding menu+select, the device will restart once, but you have to keep holding it down & it will look like it powered down 22:35 < UnconventionalT> JR____, Yes, it did that. 22:36 < UnconventionalT> JR____, And it's still off. 22:37 < JR____> What's it showing as in the Device manager? 22:37 < UnconventionalT> It's using the usbaaple.sys driver... 22:38 < UnconventionalT> It tells me it's using all of Apples stuff. 22:39 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has quit [Read error: No route to host] 22:40 < JR____> k give me a min to boot mine up & have a look 22:40 < JR____> what OS are you using? 22:40 < UnconventionalT> XP. 22:40 < user890104> UnconventionalT: itunes is reverting the driver, you could try killing ituneshelper.exe process 22:40 < user890104> or any other services related to apple 22:41 < UnconventionalT> So the ipodservice as well, I guess... 22:42 < JR____> yes, everything apple 22:42 < UnconventionalT> Should I update the driver to "iPod Classic 3G2 WTF" again? 22:44 < JR____> yup 22:44 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has joined #freemyipod-support 22:45 < UnconventionalT> Done, device is now listed under "freemyipod.org" and is using the WinUSB.sys, WdfCoInstaller01009.dll, and the WInUSBCoInstaller2.dll. 22:46 < UnconventionalT> Can I now run the UMSbootiPodClassic installer? 22:46 < JR____> yeah try running it & see what happends 22:47 < UnconventionalT> Once again, "No iPod Classic in DFU mode found!" 22:47 < UnconventionalT> It doesn't even hesitate. 22:49 < UnconventionalT> Let me try one more time with the .Net 3.5 update. 22:52 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds] 22:58 -!- asmmonkey [~asmmonkey@32.Red-83-51-129.dynamicIP.rima-tde.net] has quit [Quit: mov pc, lr] 23:05 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has joined #freemyipod-support 23:18 < UnconventionalT> One last question before I cann it a night, are fonts smooted in RockBox 23:18 < UnconventionalT> ? --- Log closed Sun Jan 23 00:00:06 2011
