Seems like I bricked my iPod 6th Gen. Tried to install iLoader+Rockbox. Worked fine. Played around a bit and decided to unistall. I followed the instructions on freemyipod.org. Now, its in DFU mode and if i plug it in Windows tries to install "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" but fails. iTunes pops up but doesnt do anything. Any help with this? 14:54 < Farthen> aereon: you most certainly didn't brick it 14:55 < Farthen> what is the error message when trying to install the apple mobile device usb driver? 14:55 < aereon> That is actually nice to hear :) 14:57 < aereon> Uhm. Nothing. the new hardware found popup (I'm on a german windows; so i'll guess...) says "error installing the driver. the device is not functioning properly" 14:57 < aereon> Device Manager reports it with a yellow warning sign 14:59 < Farthen> can you right click the device with the warning sign and select uninstall? 14:59 < aereon> yep. tried that 15:00 < aereon> btw: lsusb reports it as "ID 05ac:1223 Apple, Inc. iPod Classic/Nano 3.Gen (DFU mode)" 15:00 < Farthen> ok, it is only a driver issue then 15:00 < Farthen> which version of windows is it? 15:01 < aereon> Tried with XPSP3 and 7 15:01 < Farthen> and both can't install the driver? 15:01 < aereon> yep 15:02 < Farthen> how is the device called in device manager? 15:03 < aereon> "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" 15:08 < TheSeven> weird 15:08 < TheSeven> i'd probably try resetting it and trying again 15:08 < TheSeven> dfu mode might have cocked up on something 15:09 < aereon> hum. So resetting is Menu+Select, even in DFU mode right? Cause thats not working either 15:09 < Farthen> plug it out, then press menu+select 15:10 < aereon> And then, what should it display? Does the display stay black? 15:10 < Farthen> you should at least see some blacklight flicker 15:10 < aereon> nope 15:10 < aereon> Nothing. 15:10 < aereon> Tried holding Menu+ 15:11 < aereon> *Menu+Select 15:11 < aereon> Pressing it doesnt do anything either 15:12 < Farthen> plug it back in, wait 10-20 seconds and plug it back out 15:12 < Farthen> it sometimes does weird stuff when in dfu 15:14 < aereon> Mh, no. Doesnt change anything 15:15 < Farthen> does it still have that yellow warning sign? 15:16 < Farthen> what does itunes say when you start it? 15:16 < aereon> Yes, has the yellow warning sign and iTunes is completely idle. 15:16 < aereon> When I plug it in iTunes comes up but doesn't do anything 15:19 < Farthen> very weird 15:19 < aereon> Ah, wait. Bootstrapping (?) it with ipoddfu.py gives me the option to reboot. 15:19 < Farthen> try that 15:24 < aereon> Mhm, so. Rebooting is no problem. But I can't get iTunes to connect. Indeed, very weird. 15:25 < aereon> Oh and the iTunes install on Win7 is fresh and hasn't seen any other idevice. 15:29 < aereon> What happens when the battery deplets in dfu mode 15:30 < Farthen> the ipod will shut down 15:30 < aereon> okay, so that might be one option. to just wait for the battery to deplete?! 15:30 < Farthen> should not really help you 15:30 < aereon> ok 15:31 < Farthen> you need to find a way to make itunes find this device 15:31 < Farthen> otherwise it can't restore it abviously 15:31 < Farthen> *obviously even 15:32 < aereon> right. do you know if itunes writes any log files? 15:32 < aereon> mh,wait. google... 15:32 < Farthen> hmm, it is not about itunes at the moment but about windows 15:33 < Farthen> and i'm really wondering why windows won't eat this driver 15:33 < Farthen> did you install the winusb driver for it before? 15:33 < aereon> nope. installed iloader using linux 16:07 < TheSeven> [16:10] you should at least see some blacklight flicker << why should that flicker? 16:08 < TheSeven> [16:19] Ah, wait. Bootstrapping (?) it with ipoddfu.py gives me the option to reboot. << that means that the wrong driver is still in place 16:09 < TheSeven> one option might be grabbing the dfu image from phobos and uploading it using our tools 16:09 < TheSeven> the itunes should then catch the WTF, as the WTF driver hopefully hasn't been tampered with 16:10 < aereon> okay. sounds good. How'd that work? 16:11 < TheSeven> http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPod/SBML/osx/bundles/061-4962.20080909.Aaqs3/x12230000_Recovery.ipsw 16:11 < TheSeven> download that, rename it to .zip, extract it, and upload the dfu file inside via ipoddfu.py 16:12 < TheSeven> itunes will hopefully take care of the rest 16:24 < aereon> Okay, I think the issue here is running windows inside a VM, really. Never had a problem with VMs+iTunes+Restore. But this is the only option left. 16:25 < aereon> I'll put this aside for the moment and physically install windows somewhere -.- 16:26 < aereon> Thank you guys very much for the moment, I guess I'll be back by tomorrow ;-) 16:34 -!- aereon [~aereon@f053224224.adsl.alicedsl.de] has quit [Quit: Verlassend] 17:59 -!- TheSeven [~TheSeven@rockbox/developer/TheSeven] has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds] 18:57 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has quit [Read error: No route to host] 19:00 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has joined #freemyipod-support 19:18 -!- TheSeven [~TheSeven@rockbox/developer/TheSeven] has joined #freemyipod-support 20:00 -!- benedikt93 [~benedikt9@unaffiliated/benedikt93] has joined #freemyipod-support 21:26 -!- benedikt93 [~benedikt9@unaffiliated/benedikt93] has quit [Quit: Bye ;)] 21:51 -!- TheSeven [~TheSeven@rockbox/developer/TheSeven] has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds] 21:51 -!- Dreamxtreme [~Dre@92.30.107.230] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer] 21:53 -!- Dreamxtreme [~Dre@92.30.107.230] has joined #freemyipod-support 22:12 -!- TheSeven [~TheSeven@rockbox/developer/TheSeven] has joined #freemyipod-support 23:23 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has quit [Read error: No route to host] 23:24 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has joined #freemyipod-support --- Log closed Wed Feb 09 00:01:20 2011
