Last Time I put some music file (m4a) and a custom Rockbox Database view file on the iPod. Now when I boot my iPod the iLoader loads, then I can choose Rockbox, Rockbox now says scanning disk and then I get a Data abort at 0801B6AC FSR 0xF7 (domain 15, fault 7) address 0x960C80A4. Problem is, the Partition for the .rockbox folder and my Music is not recognised (not on Li 07:56 < aldinor> When I installed the ILoader it also Formatted the device, is it possible to format it again with a modified UBI file? 08:34 < TheSeven> aldinor: yes, either that, or just remove the rockbox folder using the emcore usb interface 08:34 < TheSeven> which OS are you using? 08:37 < aldinor> either linux or windows, but i would prefer a custom ubi file. 08:38 < aldinor> but if i upload the install ubi then it only flashes the rom and doesn't format anything 08:44 -!- Dreamxtreme [~Dre@92.30.97.232] has quit [Quit: Going!] 08:44 -!- Dreamxtreme [~Dre@92.30.97.232] has joined #freemyipod-support 09:27 < TheSeven> aldinor: if you manage to install pyusb 1.0.0 on linux and grab some files from our svn, you can access the ipod's data partition even if rockbox doesn't boot 09:28 < aldinor> ok 09:28 < aldinor> i got pyusb 09:29 < aldinor> so where do i go from there? 09:31 < TheSeven> aldinor: version 1.0.0? most distros today have something older installed 09:31 < TheSeven> svn co http://svn.freemyipod.org/embios/trunk/tools 09:32 < TheSeven> and then run "sudo python embios.py ls /" from that tools folder 09:32 < aldinor> ah you'r right just a sec 09:32 < TheSeven> (while being in the boot menu) 09:33 < TheSeven> to remove the .rockbox tree, run "sudo python embios.py rmtree /.rockbox" 09:34 < TheSeven> then download a current rockbox build (http://build.rockbox.org/data/rockbox-ipodclassic.zip) and extract it somewhere 09:34 < TheSeven> finally run "sudo python embios.py puttree /path/to/extracted/.rockbox /.rockbox" 09:34 < TheSeven> after that, you should be able to boot rockbox again 09:36 < TheSeven> in some cases it can also be sufficient to reset the configuration by running "sudo python embios.py rm /.rockbox/config.cfg", you might want to try that first 09:36 < aldinor> thanks 09:47 < aldinor> that did it 09:47 < aldinor> much appreciated, great, you don't know how happy i am! 09:52 < aldinor> does rockbox support m4a? 09:52 < aldinor> or should i ask rockbox this? 09:53 < TheSeven> aldinor: yes, it does 09:53 < TheSeven> it supports like 20 or even more codecs 09:53 < aldinor> thanks again 09:54 < TheSeven> aldinor: what exactly did the trick? removing the config file, or the full .rockbox folder? 09:54 < aldinor> yea that's why i wanted rockbox instead of apple's firmware 09:54 < aldinor> i only tried removing the full rockbox folder 09:55 < aldinor> don't know if just the config would have done the job 09:55 < aldinor> i don't even know what exactly caused the error, the database itself or a custom view database config 09:56 * TheSeven strongly suspects the database itself 09:56 < TheSeven> also, you'll probably experience corrupted metadata display now 09:56 < aldinor> probably because the error was just after scanning disk s 09:56 < TheSeven> there's currently a bug regarding that in svn, which also affects the current rockbox-ipodclassic.zip file 09:57 < TheSeven> i've proposed a fix tonight, so I hope that this will be fixed during the next day 09:57 < aldinor> well it is still in development 09:57 < aldinor> thanks 09:57 < TheSeven> so you might want to update it again tomorrow 09:57 < aldinor> yeah i will 09:57 < aldinor> how often do you change things? 09:58 < TheSeven> this will probably also crash the database during init currently, so i'd stay away from that until after that bug has been smacked 09:58 < TheSeven> see http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/11955 for details, it should be announced there once it's fixed 09:58 < aldinor> i have decided to use rockbox without database for now until it is more stable 09:58 * TheSeven changes things all the time :) 09:59 < TheSeven> with that patch applied i did a quick test of indexing ~2000 songs, and it worked, while it did crash yesterday 10:00 < aldinor> one more question, is the upload of data on the ipod somehow slow or is that just my imagination? 10:01 < TheSeven> uploading small files through embios.py is awfully slow, yes 10:01 < TheSeven> USB mass storage works reasonably well, but might still be a bit slower than the apple firmware 10:01 < TheSeven> (in rockbox) 10:02 < aldinor> thanks 10:02 * TheSeven needs to head to work :) 10:03 < aldinor> one more bug i noticed was that when i first played a .mp3 or .ogg file that it said codec missing, then it played the next song and it worked fine, when i then played the first one again it worked 10:07 -!- TheSeven [~TheSeven@rockbox/developer/TheSeven] has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds] 10:09 -!- aldinor [bcae0e8e@gateway/web/freenode/ip.188.174.14.142] has quit [Quit: Page closed] 10:19 -!- bicyclerepairman [~Sam@2.98.176.248] has joined #freemyipod-support 10:20 -!- aldinor [~deathwolf@ppp-188-174-14-142.dynamic.mnet-online.de] has joined #freemyipod-support 10:20 < bicyclerepairman> ey up. I have an iPod with a non-functioning keypad. 10:20 < bicyclerepairman> none of the button work, 10:20 < bicyclerepairman> and nor does the swirly thing. 10:20 < bicyclerepairman> the circular finger-sensor thing. 10:21 < bicyclerepairman> Can I install linux on it or do I need that to enter the "Disk Mode"? 10:21 -!- aldinor [~deathwolf@ppp-188-174-14-142.dynamic.mnet-online.de] has quit [Client Quit] 10:37 -!- TheSeven [~TheSeven@rockbox/developer/TheSeven] has joined #freemyipod-support 10:42 < bicyclerepairman> hmm, 10:43 < bicyclerepairman> seems the installer for iLoader is not available for Linux anyway 10:47 < TheSeven> bicyclerepairman: http://www.freemyipod.org/wiki/Talk:IPod_Classic_iLoader_Installation#Other_Platforms 10:48 < TheSeven> even on http://www.freemyipod.org/wiki/IPod_Classic_iLoader_Installation there are linux instructions 10:49 < bicyclerepairman> TheSeven, thank you 10:49 < bicyclerepairman> did not see that. 10:49 < bicyclerepairman> do you know if there's a way to put the thing in DFU mode without using the buttons? 10:50 < TheSeven> yes, by corrupting the boot flash data :P 10:50 < TheSeven> why? 10:50 < bicyclerepairman> mine aren't working at all. 10:50 < TheSeven> what do you want to do with it then? 10:50 < bicyclerepairman> (so I wanted to put linux on it and do something useful with the thing.) 10:51 < TheSeven> well if you can't even reboot it any more, that won't be easy 10:52 < TheSeven> also, what kind of ipod is it exactly? 10:52 < bicyclerepairman> it's a nano 2g. 10:53 < TheSeven> oh, then there isn't even really a usable dfu mode 10:53 < TheSeven> unless you open it up and do some soldering 10:54 < bicyclerepairman> my soldering experience is limited to making simple wires. I've made a null modem cable and some similar stuff. Will I have difficulties inside? 10:55 < TheSeven> well, you'll need a very tiny wire and solder it to a rather small pad on the pcb 10:55 < bicyclerepairman> aha. 10:55 < TheSeven> then you'll need a 10kOhm or something resistor and access to the +5V pin from the USB bus 10:55 < TheSeven> that way you can force it into dfu mode, and install basically anything from there 10:56 < TheSeven> however this doesn't really solve the problem of not being able to reboot it 10:56 < TheSeven> you might as well try to repair/replace the clickwheel 10:56 < bicyclerepairman> you're right. 10:56 < bicyclerepairman> I think I'll try to do that. 10:56 < TheSeven> are only the buttons not working or also the wheel surface? 10:57 < bicyclerepairman> the surface also seems not to be working. 10:57 < TheSeven> hmm 10:57 < TheSeven> if you're very lucky, that might just be a loose connector then 10:57 < TheSeven> or maybe a broken hold switch 10:57 < bicyclerepairman> the hold switch works OK 10:57 < bicyclerepairman> I see the padlock show up and disappear :-) 10:58 < TheSeven> is the audio jack dead as well? 11:00 < bicyclerepairman> I don't think so 11:02 < TheSeven> does it detect if headphones are plugged? 11:02 < TheSeven> it might be this connector: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-iPod-Nano-2nd-Generation-Display/421/4 11:06 < bicyclerepairman> well, 11:06 < bicyclerepairman> I plugged my headphones in and nothing happened, 11:06 < bicyclerepairman> do they need to be the apple ones?
