I got ipod classic 6g 80gb, and I've installed rockbox on it using this manual http://www.freemyipod.org/wiki/IPod_Classic_iLoader_Installation .. Everything was ok, I liked new features this firmware gave me, but as soon as I've loaded music on it and updated my database(~4500 files) ipod requested to reset. On the next boot it has loaded to the 21:42 < shved> and it stucked 21:42 < shved> now i can't load in rockbox 21:43 < shved> so i can't recover ipod using iTunes 21:43 < shved> the only thing I can do is load *.ubi files 21:44 < shved> the question is can I format my ipod's hard drive from DFU mode somehow? 21:45 < shved> sorry for my english, I'm from Ukraine 21:50 < shved> is there anything I can do? 21:50 < shved> I have tried to enter disk mode using select+play, but nothing happens 21:59 < shved> anything? 22:01 < shved> please send me a simple email if you find out how, ooshvedoo@gmail.com 22:01 < shved> oops! now I have ATA error: -11 22:02 < TheSeven> did you try enabling the hold switch immediately after choosing rockbox from the boot menu? 22:02 < shved> and it asks to press ON to debug.. 22:02 < shved> one sec 22:03 < shved> thanks for the answer.. but still error -11 22:04 < TheSeven> what did you do to trigger this? 22:05 < TheSeven> that error basically means that the hard disk isn't responding any more 22:05 < shved> iknow for now 22:05 < shved> I have loaded emCORE r645 22:06 < TheSeven> huh? what are you doing with emcore on a PATA ipod? 22:06 < shved> so I still can run UMSboot 22:06 < shved> I can't figure it out %) 22:07 < TheSeven> and i'm totally confused now 22:07 < shved> just tried to make things go worse 22:07 < shved> as always 22:07 < TheSeven> which bootloader and rockbox version are currently installed on that ipod? 22:07 < TheSeven> IIUC you now have a CE-ATA aware bootloader, but PATA-only rockbox 22:08 < shved> UMSboot v0.0.1 r645 22:09 < TheSeven> and which kernel / bootloader UI? 22:09 < TheSeven> emBIOS/iLoader or emCORE? 22:09 < shved> I have started with iLoader 22:09 < shved> then I got tose prroblem with a database 22:10 < TheSeven> ...which could probably have been solved by resetting rockbox's state by enabling the hold switch 22:11 < shved> after this i have tried to reinstal rockbox on the old one using installer-classic.ubi 22:11 < TheSeven> ...which wouldn't have had any effect 22:11 < shved> it had no effect 22:12 < TheSeven> ok, so that's consistent at least :) 22:12 < TheSeven> what did you do then? install the CE-ATA version? 22:12 < shved> =) 22:12 < shved> let me see 22:13 < shved> is this CE-ATA version file named with a special nickname? 22:13 < shved> I can't find one on my pc 22:14 < TheSeven> the (ce-ata aware) emcore installer would be called installer-ipodclassic.ubi 22:14 < shved> no.. just installer-classic.ubi 22:14 < TheSeven> it's linked somewhere on that discussion page in the wiki, for the users of the 160GB model 22:15 < TheSeven> oh, how did you get in contact with emCORE then? 22:15 < shved> hmm 22:15 < shved> http://builds.freemyipod.org/ 22:15 < shved> somehow 22:15 < TheSeven> ah, so you just booted that through umsboot? 22:15 < TheSeven> if you reboot your ipod now, which bootloader menu do you get? iloader or emcore? 22:15 < shved> http://builds.freemyipod.org/emcore/target/ipodclassic/emcore-ipodclassic-r650.bin 22:16 < shved> emcore 22:16 < shved> v1.0.4 22:16 < shved> and those link was wrong 22:17 < shved> my emCORE is r645 22:17 < shved> http://www.freemyipod.org/wiki/Talk:IPod_Classic_iLoader_Installation I have found now your reply here 22:18 < shved> Recovering after .rockbox was deleted or a non-working Rockbox version was installed 22:18 < TheSeven> this is completely unrelated 22:18 < shved> can I still do something like this 22:18 < TheSeven> i'm still confused as to what the state of your ipod currently is 22:18 < shved> aah 22:18 < shved> after reboot it starts those emCORE 22:18 < TheSeven> if you would have thrown that file into umsboot, that would not have had any permanent effect, and on the next boot you should get an iloader menu again, but not emcore 22:19 < shved> the blue screen, named Boot Menu 22:19 < TheSeven> so you must have picked up an emcore installer from somewhere, and the only one i know of is named "installer-ipodclassic.ubi" and linked on the wiki 22:19 < TheSeven> but you said that you didn't run that 22:20 < shved> I have also ran a fastboot iLoader 22:21 < TheSeven> you meant you extracted an iloader fastboot theme to the umsboot volume or what? 22:21 < shved> for NANO 2g 22:21 < shved> yes 22:22 < shved> you're right 22:22 < shved> it was a little bit not-my-resolution 22:22 < shved> but rockbox still was booting 22:23 < shved> i think it shouldn't change those database thing 22:24 < TheSeven> well, i still don't know why exactly it fails now, but i'd suspect that the rather old rockbox installation on your ipod is not compatible with that new emcore version for some reason 22:24 < shved> now when I put installer-classic.ubi a have a white screen 22:25 < shved> and it is written emBIOS v0.1.4 r419:422M 22:26 < shved> on the top of white screen 22:26 < shved> when I reboot, it gets to the boot menu 22:27 < TheSeven> hm, I can think of two possible routes to go now: 22:28 < TheSeven> 1. restore it completely to factory state and reinstall from that point 22:28 < TheSeven> 2. wipe away the rockbox installation, boot the recovery image, and reinstall rockbox 22:28 < TheSeven> both ways require access to the emcore debugging interface 22:29 < shved> can I try using iTunes with ATA error? 22:29 < shved> or this thing covers my hdd 22:29 < shved> ? 22:29 < TheSeven> no, the only thing you can do right now is fix the problem using the emcore debugging interface 22:30 < TheSeven> either by manual uninstallation, or by wiping away the broken rockbox build 22:30 < shved> so how can I get onto ipod's hdd from boot menu? 22:30 < TheSeven> not at all 22:31 < shved> or maybe emCORE console can help me? 22:31 < TheSeven> you need to connect to it from your pc using the emcore debugger 22:31 < shved> will try 22:31 < shved> can you give me a link> 22:31 < shved> please? 22:32 < TheSeven> which operating system are you using? 22:32 < shved> win7 32 bit 22:32 < shved> ultimate 22:32 < shved> intel core i3 CPU 22:33 < shved> if it matters 22:33 < shved> i have to study python? =) 22:34 < TheSeven> libusb is the bigger part of the problem 22:35 < shved> i have ubuntu installed 22:35 < shved> this can help 22:35 < TheSeven> that's certainly easier 22:35 < shved> =) 22:35 < shved> have installed it to try recovering my ipod) 22:36 < shved> but no success) 22:37 < shved> the problem was i could only see ipod in DFU mode, pre-installed from Windows 22:37 < shved> I was able to copy *.ubi files 22:38 < shved> is this enough? 22:40 < TheSeven> no 22:40 < shved> what else? 22:40 < shved> wait a minute, I will now boot with ubuntu 22:45 -!- shved [6de3609d@gateway/web/freenode/ip.109.227.96.157] has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds] 22:54 -!- shved_ [6de36033@gateway/web/freenode/ip.109.227.96.51] has joined #freemyipod-support 22:54 < shved_> hello again 22:54 < shved_> I've got one more problem 22:55 < shved_> cannot set my internet on ubuntu 23:05 < shved_> TheSeven, You helped me a lot, thank you very much, but can you please tell me this little secret on how to recover my ipod in ubuntu?
