16:14 < dk_> pretty sure 16:14 < dk_> I'm using Windows 7 16:14 < dk_> it's not showing any new usb devices 16:14 < TheSeven> windows reads the whole FAT before it makes the drive appear, which can take like half a minute 16:14 < dk_> even in the device manager 16:14 < TheSeven> oh, so no reaction at all? 16:14 < dk_> yes 16:14 < TheSeven> but the ipod switches to usb mode? 16:14 < dk_> shouldn 16:14 < dk_> shouldn't be this problem 16:14 < dk_> i know it takes a while before 16:15 < dk_> but this time it's like infinite 16:15 < TheSeven> and it would show up in device manager immediately if it would be that 16:15 < TheSeven> so what's the ipod doing? 16:15 < TheSeven> usb screen? storage access indicator? 16:15 < dk_> and after disconnecting from my computer, rockbox just freezes 16:15 < dk_> no 16:15 < dk_> just freezes 16:15 < TheSeven> that can take a while as well, so rockbox doesn't even come back after a minute? 16:15 < dk_> no usb screen 16:15 < TheSeven> woot? 16:15 < TheSeven> but on linux it works? 16:16 < dk_> yes 16:16 < dk_> that's quite strange, i know... 16:16 < dk_> fsck reports some bad file names, and fixes them 16:16 < TheSeven> that's really really funny as that part of the USB transition is solely controled by detecting power on the bus 16:16 < dk_> after that it still doesn't work with windows 16:17 < TheSeven> so it seems to detect *something* (because it locks up), but shouldn't yet know which OS it is talking with at that point 16:17 < TheSeven> you're the first one to report that kind of problem on windows 16:17 < TheSeven> so far all the people with USB storage problems were linux users, which were struggling with that nasty ehci_hcd bug 16:17 < dk_> guess so. that shouldn't be a problem you'd often have... 16:18 < dk_> interesting... it works fine with my ubuntu maverick 16:18 < TheSeven> (and some reports of mac os being broken wrt/ partitioning) 16:18 < TheSeven> what happens if you hold the menu button while plugging it into your windows box? 16:19 < TheSeven> does it freeze as well? 16:19 < dk_> haven't try that 16:19 < dk_> i guess it has something to do with a bad file system 16:19 < TheSeven> i doubt that 16:19 < TheSeven> that wouldn't make the ipod lock up 16:20 < dk_> hmm... fsck still reports bad filename 16:21 < TheSeven> another thing that you might want to try is downloading http://files.freemyipod.org/tmp/resetvoltages.emcoreapp and dropping it on the ipod's hdd as /.boot/init.emcoreapp 16:21 < TheSeven> it's rather unlikely as well, but you never know... 16:22 < TheSeven> what exactly does fsck complain about btw? 16:22 < dk_> Wrong checksum for long file name ":91B:5Hz:31k:73P:5Dm.mp3". 16:22 < dk_> (Short name FSCK0000.001 may have changed without updating the long name) 16:22 < dk_> Not auto-correcting this. 16:23 < TheSeven> hm, never seen that before 16:24 < dk_> Somehow it seems fsck cannot fix it... 16:24 < TheSeven> yeah, you should probably delete the affected files 16:24 < dk_> The files won't show in nautilus 16:24 < dk_> guess i'll have better luck just do a backup and reformat the whole drive 16:24 < TheSeven> no FSCK*.* files? 16:25 < TheSeven> might help 16:25 < dk_> it seems generating the FSCL* files but didn't update the wrong names 16:26 < TheSeven> yeah, but deleting those files should kill those names as well 16:26 < dk_> hmmm.... fsck says FSCK* files were generated, but actually they were not... 16:27 < dk_> I'll just format the device 16:27 < dk_> by the way, any luck with device sleeping? 16:27 < TheSeven> didn't dare to try that yet 16:28 < dk_> all right... 16:28 < TheSeven> rockbox's architecture is inherently incompatible with it anyway 16:28 < TheSeven> and for those all-so-popular flash-based devices it doesn't pay off anyway 16:28 < TheSeven> an ipod nano 2g boots rockbox in just about 2 seconds 16:28 < TheSeven> including emcore etc. 16:29 < dk_> hmm... i feel rockbox on ipod classic is just one step to perfect 16:29 < dk_> which is the device sleeping 16:29 < TheSeven> nope, it's stability and battery life 16:30 < dk_> i feel it pretty stable, and i can live with the current battery life 16:30 < dk_> just don't like to take some 10 seconds to boot and shutdown every time 16:30 < dk_> bit annoying 16:36 -!- dk__ [~dk@114.245.187.88] has quit [Remote host closed the connection] 16:36 -!- dk_ [~dk@114.245.187.88] has quit [Remote host closed the connection] 16:37 < [Saint]> I'd rather "off" was off... 16:38 < [Saint]> I don't want it to drain my battery just to wake up a few seconds faster on the occasions I wanted it to. 16:55 -!- benedikt93 [~benedikt9@unaffiliated/benedikt93] has joined #freemyipod-support 17:10 -!- [Saint_] [~St.]@124-197-14-130.callplus.net.nz] has joined #freemyipod-support 17:11 -!- [Saint] [7cc50e82@gateway/web/freenode/ip.124.197.14.130] has quit [Quit: Page closed] 17:12 -!- user890104 [~Venci@6bez10.info] has joined #freemyipod-support 17:32 -!- [Saint_] [~St.]@124-197-14-130.callplus.net.nz] has quit [Quit: Leaving] 17:33 -!- binavik [4cc3b6c3@gateway/web/freenode/ip.76.195.182.195] has joined #freemyipod-support 17:33 -!- [Saint] [~St.]@124-197-14-130.callplus.net.nz] has joined #freemyipod-support 17:35 -!- binavik [4cc3b6c3@gateway/web/freenode/ip.76.195.182.195] has quit [Client Quit] 18:03 -!- [Saint] [~St.]@124-197-14-130.callplus.net.nz] has quit [Quit: I'm only going to Heaven if it feels like Hell, I'm only going to heaven if it tastes like caramel.] 18:03 -!- [Saint] [~St.]@124-197-14-130.callplus.net.nz] has joined #freemyipod-support 19:35 < TheSeven> [Saint]: depends on the order of magnitude 19:36 < TheSeven> if it less than doubles the battery's self discharge (which seems to be true for those ipods), that would be fine with me 19:36 < TheSeven> spinning up the disk once to boot rockbox would consume more power than having it sit on your desk for a week 19:49 -!- TheSeven [~TheSeven@rockbox/developer/TheSeven] has quit [Remote host closed the connection] 20:16 -!- TheSeven [~TheSeven@rockbox/developer/TheSeven] has joined #freemyipod-support 21:38 -!- Nome [~iirc@m83-186-76-237.cust.tele2.se] has joined #freemyipod-support 21:40 -!- Nome [~iirc@m83-186-76-237.cust.tele2.se] has quit [Remote host closed the connection] 21:42 -!- Nome [~iirc@m83-186-76-237.cust.tele2.se] has joined #freemyipod-support 21:42 -!- Nome [~iirc@m83-186-76-237.cust.tele2.se] has quit [Remote host closed the connection] 21:43 -!- Nome [~iirc@m83-186-76-237.cust.tele2.se] has joined #freemyipod-support 21:43 -!- Nome [~iirc@m83-186-76-237.cust.tele2.se] has left #freemyipod-support 21:49 -!- benedikt93 [~benedikt9@unaffiliated/benedikt93] has quit [Quit: "Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored." - Aldous Huxley] 22:20 -!- famosi_ [543ab7e0@gateway/web/freenode/ip.84.58.183.224] has joined #freemyipod-support 22:22 -!- famosi_ [543ab7e0@gateway/web/freenode/ip.84.58.183.224] has quit [Client Quit] 23:34 -!- santatution [442df135@gateway/web/freenode/ip.68.45.241.53] has joined #freemyipod-support 23:37 < santatution> Hi, I can't get my iPod classic to work with the program "bootstrap_ipodclassic_itunes".
