07:51 < jones1> Running fdisk -l showed a 63 MB drive but no partitions.  I waited about 30 minutes then rebooted my PC to try restarting the Hal daemon.  Now the disk doesn't appear.  should I power the iPod down and repeat "sudo python ipoddfu.py bootstrap-ipodclassic.dfu" or just reboot the iPod?  Thanks

09:37 < jones1> thanks, that is very similar to my output.  I tried mounting w/o specifying a filetype.  It seems to be working, though slowly.  I'll re-check it in the morning.

Problem is, after I close the service in task manager, and hold the menu+center button, once the ipod goes into the "shut down" state and starts installing the driver, the service starts up again, iTunes launches, and tries to restore the ipod. So when I try to run the bootstrap.exe, it says that no DFU device was found
