I was able to make it work for a while by uninstalling the iPod driver when I wanted to connect and sync, but lately that hasn't been working, and now it won't even recognize the device. Any suggestions you can give me would be most appreciated. 22:04 < Farthen> ninjaguy: you are using windows? 22:05 < ninjaguy> yes, windows 7 64 bit 22:05 < Farthen> does rockbox still see the hard drive normally? so can you still play music from it? 22:06 < ninjaguy> yes, I can play music from the device, but I can't connect to the PC and sync anything now. 22:06 < Farthen> so it doesn't detect it as a mass storage device at all? 22:06 < Farthen> does rockbox show that it is connected as a mass storage device? 22:08 < ninjaguy> it detects a drive, but when I open it there is nothing on it, and when I look at the properties, no info is given, and then when I try to eject the drive it says there was an error ejecting the drive. 22:08 < Farthen> weird 22:09 < ninjaguy> yeah 22:09 < Farthen> did you already try connecting to another computer? 22:09 < ninjaguy> that's not an option at the moment 22:09 < Farthen> ok, i was just wondering if that was a device side issue or a windows one 22:10 < Farthen> do you have the latest rockbox build for ipodclassic installed? 22:10 < ninjaguy> I didn't have any problems with stock firmware, and all my oher USB devices work properly 22:11 < ninjaguy> using build r708: April 24th, 2011 22:11 < Farthen> ok 22:12 < Farthen> does your device manager show any yellow questions marks or anything like that? 22:13 < ninjaguy> there was one for a EmCORE debug device and for a RockBox device, but I uninstalled both of them 22:14 < Farthen> uhm, the rockbox device one was the one you need now? 22:14 < Farthen> why did you uninstall them? 22:15 < ninjaguy> they were unrecognized devices. the only one that installed properly was the apple ipod driver. 22:15 < Farthen> apple ipod driver... this thing shouldn't be detected as ipod at all 22:16 < Farthen> just to be sure, you are now in the rockbox menu? not in emcore? and your device is detected as an ipod? as a mass storage device? or is it not detected at all? 22:18 < ninjaguy> ok, i'm going to plug it in and tell you what happens 22:18 < Farthen> you are now in rockbox? 22:19 < ninjaguy> I did notice that when I flashed EmCORE that it didn't format the drive. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. 22:20 < Farthen> uhm, you shouldn't be able to boot to rockbox at all then 22:20 < Farthen> are you using the rockbox recovery mode? 22:20 < ninjaguy> k, just plugged it in and it was detected as an ipod 22:21 < Farthen> can you please reboot your ipod and select "umsboot"? 22:21 < ninjaguy> I don't think so. I choose rockbox from the boot screen and it comes up 22:21 < ninjaguy> ok 22:21 < Farthen> just in case, this will (hopefully) erase the data on your hd 22:22 < Farthen> does the umsboot drive pop up? 22:22 < ninjaguy> yes 22:22 < Farthen> ok, please drop in this file: http://files.freemyipod.org/releases/20110424/installer-ipodclassic-r708-20110424.ubi 22:23 < Farthen> then safely remove the ipod and unplug it 22:25 < ninjaguy> k, i did that and it went straight to flashing 22:25 < Farthen> ok, please follow the on screen instructions until you see the emcore menu 22:27 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has quit [Quit: hallowed are the ori!] 22:33 < ninjaguy> still no joy 22:33 < Farthen> you don't see the emcore menu? 22:34 < ninjaguy> I see it, but still can't access the disk via windows 22:34 < Farthen> you can only access the disk while in rockbox 22:35 < Farthen> please boot rockbox recovery mode 22:35 < Farthen> then unplug/replug the device 22:35 < Farthen> what happens? 22:36 < ninjaguy> i have, and it is still recognized as an ipod, and can't access the drive 22:38 < Farthen> hmm, that is weird 22:38 < Farthen> but your data got erased while doing the install? 22:39 < ninjaguy> not by the program 22:39 < ninjaguy> I did a manual format to see if anything would change, but no joy 22:40 < Farthen> how can you do manual formatting if the drive isn't recognized by the computer? 22:42 < ninjaguy> used the tools section of EmCORE 22:43 < Farthen> ah 22:44 < Farthen> i can't really help you at this point, this is probably a messed up driver in windows 22:44 < ninjaguy> I'm going back to stock and starting the process over to see if that will change anything 22:44 < Farthen> you can of course revert and install again, but it's probably a windows problem 22:45 < ninjaguy> could it be a corrupted driver? 22:45 < Farthen> you can try uninstalling the ipod driver and search for a new one in device manager 22:45 < Farthen> there is probably something messed up, i can't tell exactly 22:47 < ninjaguy> k, restore is done, and windows detects the ipod just fine now 22:55 * Farthen has an idea 22:55 < Farthen> ninjaguy: can you reinstall, but this time with http://files.freemyipod.org/tmp/installer-ipodclassic-usbfixcandidate.ubi ? 22:56 < Farthen> so basically follow the install instructions but install that file instead 22:56 < Farthen> this may fix your issues 22:57 < ninjaguy> k, i'll give it a try 23:09 < ninjaguy> k, not sure if this did the trick or not, but the disk is finally recognized after I went through the device manager and deleted all traces of the ipod 23:10 < Farthen> so did you install the usbfixcandidate or the normal one? 23:10 < ninjaguy> the usbfixcandidate 23:11 < Farthen> ok, can you extract the normal rockbox image from the emcore releases page? 23:12 < Farthen> so download http://files.freemyipod.org/releases/20110424/rockbox-ipodclassic-r29777-20110424.zip and extract it to the root of your ipod 23:13 < ninjaguy> k 23:14 < Farthen> i'm really wondering if that works... if it does, the solution was not related to the usbfixcandidate build but to something else 23:19 < ninjaguy> now I'm back to the same problem. After the safe eject, the device isn't recognized properly 23:20 < Farthen> ok, that at least narrows the problem down 23:20 < Farthen> to fix it you would need to boot umsboot again, flash the usbfixcandidate again and then extract http://files.freemyipod.org/tmp/rockbox-ipodclassic-usbfixcandidate.zip instead 23:21 < Farthen> that would leave you with a working solution 23:21 < ninjaguy> well, let's see what happens 23:29 < ninjaguy> I don't know what's going on, but I still can't access the drive 23:29 < Farthen> i'm confused now 23:29 < ninjaguy> so am i 23:30 < Farthen> you could try fiddeling with the drivers again 23:30 < Farthen> i can't think of anything else 23:30 < ninjaguy> i have been 23:30 < Farthen> sorry that i can't be of much help, maybe TheSeven is there tomorrow, he could maybe help out 23:32 < ninjaguy> one thing I'm noticing though is that the first time I used the .ubi file it prompted me to format the drive, but on subsequent installations that step was skipped and it went straight to flashing the boot loader. I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but it's the only thing I can think of that's changed. 23:33 < Farthen> well, that doesn't surprise me that much, the hd structure is different between emcore and the original firmware 23:33 < Farthen> but when emcore already sees the right structure it doesn't need to erase the data 23:33 < ninjaguy> even after reverting back to stock? 23:34 < Farthen> no, reverting to stock will restore the old structure 23:36 < ninjaguy> well, I didn't get the promp after I restored to stock, either 23:37 < Farthen> hmm, may be possible that that region on the hd never god touched 23:38 < ninjaguy> well, reverting back to stock again to see what happens 23:42 < ninjaguy> k, back at stock now. trying again 23:48 < ninjaguy> well, i'm giving it up as a lost cause for the time being 23:49 < ninjaguy> thanks for staying with me and for all your suggestions 23:50 < ninjaguy> too bad we weren't able to get it working 23:50 < ninjaguy> gotta go, maybe I'll try agin when TheSeven is on to see if he has any more ideas 23:51 -!- ninjaguy [cfcce917@gateway/web/freenode/ip.207.204.233.23] has quit [Quit: Page closed] --- Log closed Sat Jun 11 00:57:44 2011
