02:07 < [7]> the instructions tell you to close down and kill each and every apple process, before putting the ipod in dfu mode

15:17 < TheSeven> there is no recovery mode in the ipod classic emcore loader
15:18 < TheSeven> this feature is only present on the iPod Nano 2G, where we need it because of its broken DFU mode
15:18 < TheSeven> to update, just boot an installer through UMSboot

15:20 < TheSeven> r708 is the latest publicly realeased installer
15:20 < Khaine_> i figure a newer version might be more stable/better performace battery life, havent been following revisions tho
15:21 < TheSeven> the fact that you're using r712 suggests that you might be using one of these builds that have the experimental synopsysotg patch applied, which seems to fix USB problems that occur on very few devices
15:22 < TheSeven> this patch has been committed in r720, and this is the only change since since r708 that affects the ipod classic build
15:23 < TheSeven> so if you build current SVN head yourself, you'll probably end up reproducing the exact same binary, apart from a couple of version numbers
15:24 < Farthen> also i wouldn't suggest to update to svn HEAD randomly because sometimes things will be broken without it being written anywhere
15:25 < Khaine_> ahh thats fine then, i havent had any issues with 712, i just like to be up to date lol
15:25 < TheSeven> well, on the classic this should be relatively low-risk, compared to certain older models, as they can be unbricked easier :)
