You could always use a liveCD, or run linux in a vm. 12:41 < user890104> it seems like your ipod does not have enough voltage to power the hardware parts 12:42 < user890104> which shouldn't happen 12:42 < Marach> yeah, i've got an arch livecd.u 12:42 < Cephapod> I see 12:42 < Marach> user890104: i tried to avoid those versions but now that i think about it, i don't even remember why i installed the svn ones 12:43 < user890104> Marach: the SVN ones are *not* recommended for end users 12:43 < user890104> unless someone of the developers advise you to do so 12:43 < Marach> i think we were trying to fix the 10KBps write speed on linux problem with them 12:44 < user890104> well, in that case the usb fix should be included in the latest build 12:44 < user890104> the svn versions are basicly the last release + the usb fix + some other untested changes + some visual changes in the menu + some new api functions 12:45 < Marach> first i'll install the usbfixcandidate versions 12:45 < user890104> yeah, try that first, should be safe 12:46 < user890104> Cephapod: about your ipod, TheSeven could give me a hint what is the maximum voltage we can use, then i can make you a custom build to see if it fixes your problem 12:47 < Cephapod> Would that be a lot of trouble? 12:47 < user890104> but he is a busy man, so we need to wait for him to answer when he's free 12:47 < user890104> the build is basicly made in a few minutes 12:47 < user890104> but i need to know the exact values 12:47 < user890104> because, supplying the wrong voltage can damage the parts 12:48 < Cephapod> ah, that would not be wonderful 12:48 < user890104> yeah, but fortunately he knows which values are safe 12:48 < user890104> since he wrote most of the firmware 12:49 < user890104> emcore and rockbox for the classics 12:49 < Cephapod> Are the problems related to the generation of the ipod or to faulty hardware in my ipod? 12:49 < user890104> it may be a failure, it may be some different parts used in the series which your ipod belongs to 12:49 < user890104> i can't tell for sure 12:50 < Cephapod> I understand 12:50 < user890104> you should keep an eye at the logs 12:50 < user890104> http://logs.freemyipod.org/%23freemyipod-support/2011-10/ 12:50 < user890104> so you can see when he replies, if you're not online at the moment 12:50 < Cephapod> will do! 13:22 < TheSeven> user890104: just comment the voltage configuration part altogether 13:22 < TheSeven> it'll run at stock voltages then 13:23 < TheSeven> i thought we did that in svn though 13:24 < TheSeven> yeah, we did that: http://websvn.freemyipod.org/filedetails.php?repname=freemyipod&path=%2Femcore%2Ftrunk%2Ftarget%2Fipodnano3g%2Fpmu.c 13:24 < TheSeven> Cephapod: which revision are you using? 13:25 < TheSeven> everything >=r683 should be running at stock voltages and not exhibit this behavior 13:40 -!- Marach is now known as Marafk 14:46 -!- [Saint] is now known as would 14:46 -!- would is now known as [Saint] 14:48 -!- [Saint] is now known as would 14:48 -!- would is now known as [Saint] 15:10 < Cephapod> I'm using the r708 release. The emcore menu screen was very garbled but the real problem was that the rockbox fallback was hanging and I therefore wasn't able to use roxkbox to make the main memory accessible on the laptop. Thankfully I got past this stage and the ipod appears to be running rockbox without problems atm. 15:22 < Cephapod> Thanks for all your help! If I could make a suggestion about your otherwise excellent installation walkthrough - it would be helpful if you could amend the last bullet pointed instruction on (EmCORE Installation/iPodClassic/PrepareDFULinux) to indicate that the sudo command should be run not as it is indicated but with the correct filename of the downloaded version of the .dfu file. Perhaps this only confused me. 15:27 < user890104> Cephapod: thanks, fixed 15:27 < Cephapod> :0) 15:29 -!- cac2s [~cac2s@atoll-ama.com] has left #freemyipod-support 15:34 -!- benedikt93 [~benedikt9@unaffiliated/benedikt93] has joined #freemyipod-support 15:42 -!- Cephapod [5ad6641d@gateway/web/freenode/ip.90.214.100.29] has left #freemyipod-support 19:33 -!- AbbySciuto [~abbysciut@cpe-75-187-174-165.neo.res.rr.com] has joined #freemyipod-support 19:34 < AbbySciuto> Alright, I'm at http://www.freemyipod.org/wiki/EmCORE_Installation/iPodClassic/DFUiTunes this step in the wizard.
