I want to install what freemyipod has been working on. I was going to install ipod linux until I found out that it no longer existed and had moved. I have had rockbox on my iPod in the past, but that was installed a few years ago and I don't remember what all I did. I'm not sure how to install or where to find the files for the freemyipod project. Can anyone help? 09:43 < user890104> Panoman: what is your ipod model? 09:45 < Panoman> My iPod is a 2nd Gen Nano 2gb. 09:45 < user890104> and you have nothing but the apple firmware at the moment? 09:45 < Panoman> Yes. 09:46 < user890104> and you want to install rockbox? 09:46 < user890104> that's easy: http://www.rockbox.org/download/ 09:46 < Panoman> Rockbox is what I had before. I was under the impression that there was still a version of the iPod linux being worked on. 09:47 < user890104> no, there isn't, emcore is an operating systemm targeted to developers 09:47 < user890104> it is used as a bootloader for choosing between apple's firmware/rockbox/disk mode/diag mode 09:48 < Panoman> Oh. So, other than emcore, is there any other operating system then? I was content with Rockbox, I was just interested in trying something new. 09:48 < user890104> not any that i'm aware of 09:49 < user890104> emcore basicly replaces rockbox's bootloader and you get a shiny menu with icons to select what to boot 09:49 < user890104> the other features are mostly interesting to C/ASM developers 09:50 < user890104> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frs1k8f1EQc 09:50 < Panoman> Okay. Do you have to have rockbox downloaded and installed before you do anything with the bootloader? 09:50 < user890104> which bootloader? rockbox's or emcore's? 09:50 < user890104> it shouldn't matter in both ways 09:51 < user890104> installing rockbox is just coopying a folder in your ipod's flash memory 09:51 < user890104> using the rockbox.org link i gave you above is the easiest way 09:52 < Panoman> Yeah. I remember that being fairly simple. I was trying to install emcore but I'm not too familiar with the command prompt and getting things to work that way. Not to say that I haven't used it successfully before. 09:52 < Panoman> I don't really need a different interface to select between the two firmwares, however. So I probably won't worry about it. 09:53 < user890104> yeah, just install rockbox and have fun with it 09:53 < Panoman> That's what I'll do :) 09:53 < user890104> ipodlinux is dead for some years 09:53 < Panoman> Thanks muchly for your help and clarifaction! 09:53 < user890104> you're welcome 09:54 -!- Panoman [ae1bd13c@gateway/web/freenode/ip.174.27.209.60] has quit [Quit: Page closed] 11:27 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has joined #freemyipod-support 15:32 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has quit [Remote host closed the connection] 15:39 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has joined #freemyipod-support 15:52 -!- benedikt93 [~benedikt9@unaffiliated/benedikt93] has joined #freemyipod-support 16:57 -!- cac2s [~cac2s@atoll-ama.com] has left #freemyipod-support 17:08 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer] 17:14 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has joined #freemyipod-support 18:52 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has quit [Remote host closed the connection] 23:11 -!- benedikt93 [~benedikt9@unaffiliated/benedikt93] has quit [Quit: Bye ;)] --- Log closed Sat Nov 12 00:00:25 2011
