I have some important data stored in my iPod Classic 1st, data that right now I can't backup (for a lot of reasons). I want to install emCORE on it. Is there any possibility that installation might fail and my data would be lost? 21:11 < Tamashii> I have read some articles in the Wiki and well, uninstallation does delete all data (mainly because it's an Apple sanctioned firmware reinstallation). But there's no info regarding installation data precautions in the Wiki. 21:15 < TheSeven> on an ipod classic, emcore installation will generally wipe everything away. on an ipod nano 2g it shouldn't. 21:16 < TheSeven> this is due to the way that apple stores the firmware on this device. it *might* be worked around in the future, but right now, you'll have to live with that. 21:16 < TheSeven> the installer will warn you about that fact before it touches anything though 21:17 < Tamashii> Oh, I understand now... Say, what if I was able to make a full backup of all files inside the iPod (something like an image), could I restore it fully and it would work as before (in this case I'm mainly concerned about music)? 21:18 < TheSeven> if you make a backup of all files and copy those back after restoring with itunes, it should be in the same state as when you did the backup 21:18 < TheSeven> at least assuming that you already have the most recent firmware version installed 21:19 < TheSeven> otherwise I have no idea if apple's firmware might be picky about some config files... 21:21 < Tamashii> Oh, in that light, maybe the issue would be to properly backup the music and config files, because I do have the latest firmware version. 21:21 < Tamashii> Nevertheless, thanks for the answers... If I have another question, I'll return here. For now, I have to find 80GB to backup my iPod. 21:27 < Tamashii> Anyway... Thank you again!
