Followed every step. What's going wrong? 14:32 < doop> anyone please? 14:39 < TheSeven> kill all apple processes (especially the mobile device service) and re-enter DFU mode 14:39 < TheSeven> this is most likely a sign of not catching all of them 14:45 < doop> great!! Thanks!! Better put that in your wiki too cause it only says to kill one process 14:49 < doop> thanks again dude! We're up and running! 14:50 < doop> @theseven is there a way putting back the stock Apple firmware? 14:51 < TheSeven> heh, isn't that a question that should be asked *before* installing things? 14:51 * [Saint] is pretty sure the installation instructions say to kill any Apple related process. 14:51 < TheSeven> but the answer is yes, you can just restore using itunes 14:53 < TheSeven> [Saint]: it might not be clear which ones are actually apple related to the end user 14:54 < TheSeven> so we should probably have a comprehensive list of process names on the wiki 14:55 < doop> yeah, you're right, read about it though but wanted to know for sure. 14:58 < doop> might be a good idea. It says to kill just one process, so I left the other ones alone thinking they might be needed in the process. The risk of bricking your ipod makes you following each step the wiki says and not to mess around. So 'kill all apple processes' might be an idea. 15:02 < [Saint]> You really can't brick an iPod. 15:02 < [Saint]> Not without an extreme amount of effort. 15:03 < [Saint]> ...or a hammer. 15:03 < TheSeven> at least not a classic 15:03 < TheSeven> the nano2g might be a bit easier to get into a really nasty state 15:03 < [Saint]> its still recoverable, though. 15:04 < TheSeven> yeah but most people would break it completely while trying to recover 15:04 < TheSeven> opening a nano2g case without ripping anything apart isn't exactly triviaal 15:04 < [Saint]> this is true. 15:06 -!- liar [~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at] has joined #freemyipod-support 15:06 < doop> isnt rockbox suppose to play flac? Put a folder on the ipod but it doen't recocnise or see any files 15:07 < TheSeven> did you fully finish the installation? 15:08 * [Saint] suspects not. 15:09 < [Saint]> People see rb boot and stop reading. 15:09 < TheSeven> it should still see them though even if the codecs aren't installed, right? 15:09 < TheSeven> the metadata parser is completely in the kernel IIUC 15:10 < [Saint]> depends where you put the folder I guess. 15:10 < [Saint]> Or the show files setting. 15:10 < doop> yeah I did, but when booting it says 'rockbox.ipod failed, falling back to image', then 'installing' and then it start . Ik keeps repeating this everytime I boot rockbox 15:10 < [Saint]> Hmmmm.... 15:10 < [Saint]> Interesting. 15:11 < TheSeven> "installing"? where does it say that? 15:11 < doop> after 'installing...' 15:12 < [Saint]> wait...what? 15:12 < TheSeven> you mean "loading rockbox.ipod failed, using fallback image", "no .rockbox directory", "installation incomplete" or something like that? 15:12 < doop> yes! That's it! 15:12 < TheSeven> this means that you didn't finish the installation yet 15:12 < [Saint]> Yes...you didn't finish the install 15:12 < [Saint]> People see rb boot and stop reading. :) 15:12 < doop> oh, followed every step though 15:13 < TheSeven> except for the last one 15:13 < doop> say what? 15:13 < [Saint]> Can't have done. Really. 15:13 < doop> so how to install it then? 15:14 < TheSeven> you are at "Wait for Rockbox to boot (Complaints about the rockbox.ipod file being missing are normal at this point.)" 15:14 < TheSeven> (on http://www.freemyipod.org/wiki/EmCORE_Installation/iPodClassic/UMSboot ) 15:14 < [Saint]> http://build.rockbox.org/data/rockbox-ipodclassic.zip 15:14 < [Saint]> extract to / 15:15 < TheSeven> all the steps after that apparently haven't been performed yet 15:16 < doop> my bad, forgot the zip... 15:17 < [Saint]> TheSeven: Actually...it seems a bit of a fail. Unless I'm blind there's no rockbox.zip on the releases page. 15:18 < TheSeven> http://files.freemyipod.org/releases/20120102/rockbox-ipodclassic-r31516-20120102.zip (latest known-good ipod classic build) is linked on http://www.freemyipod.org/wiki/EmCORE_Releases/r859 15:19 < [Saint]> 'doh! (the scrollbar was covered by another window and it looked like the page ended before "Files") 15:19 < [Saint]> ...carry on ;) 15:23 < doop> zip file only contains the rockbox utility, cant install it. So what do I do now? 15:24 < doop> sorry, missed your link, got it now 15:26 < doop> Dudes!! Beautiful! Everything works!! Thanks for your time! Greetings from the Netherlands! 15:39 < doop> Guys I'm a happy man, this realy is an awsome project! It plays nearly everything and wow how many settings! Itunes down the drain.
