[17:51:17] I have a iPod Classic 6th Gen 160GB. Trying to install Rockbox but my iPod is just sat there with the emCORE Installer 'Formatting' process for about 15 minutes. I have rebooted it and tried the process again but same problem. [17:54:01] Newformz: [7] might have an idea [17:54:24] could be a bad hdd, but just guessing [17:54:50] in terms of hardware or you think a wipe might help? [17:55:30] if i format within windows then do the process again [17:57:36] I'll give it a go and take the thing apart check nothing loose etc [17:57:40] thanks for the help [17:59:37] Newformz: if there are bad sectors on the hdd, a format won't help much [17:59:47] we have a tool for remapping bad sectors [18:00:06] because the drive fails to do that sometimes [18:00:33] taking this apart is not a good idea at all :) [18:01:23] you should only open it, if you change some part [18:01:40] where can i find the tool? Cant seem to find it on the site [18:02:22] I mention taking it apart because when i first got the iPod i replace the front and back casing and thinking might have bodged something [18:03:01] http://files.freemyipod.org/tmp/hddscan2.ubi [18:03:15] thank you [18:03:30] well, if it works with apple's firmware, the connections are fine [18:03:47] yeah not had any issues with playback [18:04:25] that's because the first tens of megabytes are used by the firmware, they are only read, not written [18:04:34] except when updating/restoring [18:04:46] i can hear the drive spinning fine but still stuck on Formatting [18:04:47] and our firmware uses them as part of the data partition [18:05:01] which causes problems sometimes [18:05:02] ahh i see [18:05:20] any suggestions? [18:05:29] other than a hdd scan [18:05:50] can it be installed without formatting? [18:08:01] at the moment, no [18:14:02] Oh i forgot when i run bootstrap i get a success but in the console DeviceIoControl: Error 31: A device attached to the system is not functioning. [18:14:23] This makes the hdd problem sound more likely [18:21:17] It passed on the hdd scan [18:26:46] How long should the format process normally take? [21:00:52] which error? [21:01:05] there's a number next to the message [21:06:30] 80000000 sector 0 [21:06:45] not 100% accurate with the zeros :) [21:06:54] but definately sector 0 [21:07:08] anyway to capture a log? [21:11:11] been looking through old logs and google searches but no conclusions founds [21:11:21] i am determined to get this working lol [21:34:45] tried previous versions of EmCore and same issue [21:48:29] this means that it can't read the first sector [21:48:39] smells like actual hdd trouble [21:51:07] i did a test using your file and using the maintenance menu from apple and they both passed, confused :S [21:55:32] Retracts: 19 Reallocs: 0 Pending Sectors: 0 PowerOn Hours 271 Start/Stops: 13707 Temp Current: 30c Temp Min: 53c Temp Max: 254c [21:57:56] these stats look very well [21:58:07] so it's not the hdd plate, but something else [21:59:10] What else could it possibly be? [21:59:53] loosy connection to the drive [22:00:02] you said you opened the ipod before, right? [22:00:07] Yes [22:00:15] now it makes sense to check the connection [22:00:15] Im just going to take it apart [22:00:33] reallocs: 0 means no bad sectors at all [22:01:06] It was bit of a rushed job as i was at work so that's why i was thinking it maybe loosing connection somewhere even thou music and everything works flawlessly [22:01:40] I presume music is buffered/cached into memory therefore playback may not have been affected? [22:02:14] I'll take a look inside then see what's going on [22:02:19] Really appreciate the help [22:37:26] *** Quits: Newformz (516d62f8@gateway/web/freenode/ip.81.109.98.248) (Quit: Page closed) [22:58:20] *** Joins: mudu8 (29d47049@gateway/web/freenode/ip.41.212.112.73) [23:08:37] *** Joins: Josh_ (~Josh@41.212.112.73) [23:10:23] Hi, I want some help i have an ipod classic with a broken play/pause button is there a way i can install emCore as am stuck on the "WARNING" page where it requires you to press menu and play keys to continue. [23:37:05] <[7]> the key is fully broken? [23:37:27] <[7]> i.e. you can't even make it respond with a bit of wiggling around? [23:38:00] <[7]> in that case a custom build that disables this warning screen might be easiest [23:41:38] Thanks for the response, yes the key is completely dead. How would i go about custom building it? [23:43:49] * [7] looks at user890104 [23:46:35] * user890104 hides behind a tree [23:46:48] i can make a custom one in about half an hour [23:48:35] Thank you very much. I don't know if its appropriate place to ask this, but i want to put rockbox on it and was wondering will it be usable without the play/pause button or will usability be hampered. [23:51:18] <[7]> it should be mostly usable [23:51:25] <[7]> probably not all of its plugins though [23:51:41] <[7]> and you probably won't be able to pause it [23:51:54] <[7]> and stuff like shutting it down will require a lot more clicks than if you had a play button [23:53:14] I don't mind minor inconveniences as long as it works, so i'll give it a try if i can get emcore working.
