[10:47:09] iTunes won't recognize my iPod. [10:47:29] akaTRAP: which iPod is it? [10:47:35] iPod Classic 3G [10:48:15] akaTRAP: you installed rockbox on it? it's normal that iTunes won't recognize it, as it now does not use the iTunes database or anything like that [10:48:38] Yea, but after installing it I realized it's not for me, and I would like to revert back if possible. [10:48:54] akaTRAP: but one thing, do you need what's on the iPod? [10:49:05] akaTRAP: the simplest way, if you have iTunes, is to restore it using iTunes [10:49:15] akaTRAP: (and it's normal that it won't offer you that option right now) [10:49:31] I have everything backed up, so nothing is important on this iPod. [10:49:51] akaTRAP: ok, connect the iPod to the computer with iTunes, open iTunes, it won't list the iPod [10:50:04] let me just double-check if the step is the same for 3G [10:50:25] akaTRAP: you need to get the iPod in DFU mode so that iTunes recognizes it and offers a choice to "recover" it [10:51:37] akaTRAP: hold menu+select (so, the top and center buttons in the wheel) for 15 seconds [10:51:50] akaTRAP: first, that will trigger the usual iPod restart. keep holding the buttons [10:52:17] akaTRAP: then, as it is connected to the computer, it will restart again, and the screen will be (almost?) black [10:52:37] akaTRAP: that is DFU mode, and iTunes should recognize it after some seconds [10:53:02] akaTRAP: wait a while, and it should say something along with the lines of "iTunes detected an iPod in recovery mode" [10:53:23] Damn, I had it and I guess I held it down for too long cuz now it says "waiting for iPod". I'll try again. [10:54:12] you could do the restore using tools from freemyipod, but as iTunes is able to do it, I'd say it's easier [10:54:35] the iTunes procedure is really this simple, see http://www.freemyipod.org/wiki/EmCORE_Uninstallation [10:55:56] Hmm, I did it a second time but I don't get the "DFU" device. I guess I just need to restart the process. [10:56:03] lol I think I got excited and messed it up :P [10:56:48] oh nevermind. iTunes recognized the iPod. :D thanks for your help [11:04:22] *** Quits: akaTRAP (45d1cce1@gateway/web/freenode/ip.69.209.204.225) (Quit: Page closed) [12:09:22] *** Quits: ChanServ (ChanServ@services.)
