I'm trying to install EmCORE on my iPod classic 160gb [19:41:00] I connected my iPod, made sure iTunes was closed, killed the processes and held the select and menu button down until the screen turned completely black. However, no new usb device turns up [19:41:43] Is there anything I am missing? [19:42:15] I'm running win xp on this machine, should I switch to a win7 or my linux based machine? [19:42:23] <[7]> all three should work [19:42:43] <[7]> and it's fairly impossible that it completely disappears [19:45:42] just resetted it via itunes and trying it again now [19:47:29] it doesnt seem to install new drivers for Apple Recovery (DFU) USB Driver [19:47:53] the screen just tuns black and the usb device isnt listed any more on my computer [19:52:11] Gonna reboot, brb [19:52:56] *** Quits: Lea (5cc87f44@gateway/web/freenode/ip.92.200.127.68) (Quit: Page closed) [19:58:21] *** Joins: Lea (5cc87f44@gateway/web/freenode/ip.92.200.127.68) [19:58:50] re [20:02:05] Lea: try the linux way, you don't need to mess with apple processes there [20:03:17] thanks, I'll try it via linux an then come back to you =) [20:03:24] Short question however: [20:04:16] The machine I'll be connecting it most to is not linux based. That isn't a problem, it doesnt matter which system I used to insall emCore? [20:15:38] <[7]> doesn't matter [20:16:21] <[7]> if itunes can "reset" it, there *must* be a device that was detected [20:16:33] <[7]> otherwise itunes wouldn't even know that there is an ipod and it couldn't control it at all [20:20:38] ah, right. However, i wasn't seeing the new usb device which was supposed to connect. I'll try the linux way now and then come back to you guys =) Thank you very much for your help already. [20:48:52] It worked, brilliant! Thank you! Now I just need to get used to rockbox ;-) [20:55:52] Lea: there's a detailed manual, in case you get stuck: http://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-ipodvideo/rockbox-build.html [20:57:46] Thank you very much, will check that out!
