Everything works fine, but I would like to update rockbox to the latest version from here - http://download.rockbox.org/daily/ipodclassic/ - are the nightlies compatible with emCORE r859 and am I gonna run into any critical issues if i upgrade? [14:25:36] they are compatible. in case something doesn't work, go to tools->fallback rockbox image, then downgrade/upgrade to a different version. [14:37:20] user890104: great! thank you very much! is there a way to see the changelog specifically for the ipod only port? [14:38:11] not really, some of the code is reused in all ports of rockbox [14:38:51] these are all changes to the rockbox source code: http://git.rockbox.org/?p=rockbox.git;a=shortlog [14:39:13] although this is not the best place for this, you can ask rockbox-specific questions in #rockbox [14:39:44] about emcore, there aren't any significant changes since the beginning of this year [14:39:51] user890104: aha, i see, is there an 'official' changelog then? apart from http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/MajorChanges ? [14:39:55] you should be fine with the latest release [14:40:21] well, MajorChanges basiicly sum up all major changes made to rockbox [14:40:44] and the git log has every bit of code that has been changes, with an explanation of what does it do [14:41:25] you can also open this page: http://www.rockbox.org/since-release.html [14:41:31] and search for "classic" [14:41:51] user890104: cool! thank you! [14:42:24] the latest change i can see is from 20th march [14:43:54] user890104: i am seeing classic fixes as soon as June 26th [14:45:04] these aren't actual changes to the code that runs on the device [14:45:24] but they add it to rockbox utility, so one can install the main firmware easily [14:45:41] user890104: aha, i see [14:45:51] but unfortunately, the bootloader needs to be installed separately, "the hard way" [14:46:09] you can basicly use rockbox utility to update rockbox, too [14:46:34] user890104: really, is that some kind of a gui? [14:46:40] yes, exactly [14:47:10] but the latest publicly available version has a bug that actually prevents installing rockbox to ipod classic and some other players [14:47:26] this has been fixed, but i don't know if there is a more recent build of it [14:47:31] cool! i just built the project from git, does it mean it also built the gui? [14:47:50] no, i think you need to build the utility separately [14:47:58] it uses QT [14:48:10] and you might need the sdk [14:48:36] will it compile on linux? (archlinux) i do have all the qt4 deps [14:49:03] it should compile, yes [14:49:11] there are some instructions on the rockbox wiki [14:49:19] in page RockboxUtilityDevelopment [14:49:35] that is cool! i followed http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SimpleGuideToCompiling - is there a more detailed guide too? [14:50:14] wow! thanks! [14:50:52] it's basicly qmake && make [14:51:18] that's beautiful :) [14:52:21] btw, i asked my original question in the first place because i though the version from http://files.freemyipod.org/releases/20120102/rockbox-ipodclassic-r31516-20120102.zip might have contained some specific patches, do i understand it correctly that this is just a plain rockbox classic build, right? [15:17:05] it was like that in the past, now plain rockbox binaries work just fine [15:22:17] i see, thank you! btw i try running qmake from ./rbutil/rbutilqt but get an error; looks like i am not the first; there is some kind of fix mentioned at http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?action=printpage;topic=23932.0 but the link to the patch at the bottom of the page is no longer available most likely because of the switch from svn to git, do you have any ideas on this? [15:22:41] the error message i get is the same as in the link [15:32:57] hm, tried just running `make` without `qmake` and it compiled without problems; so there is no issue with it; [15:32:57] thanks a lot one more time :) [16:56:42] you can get more detailed help about rockbox in channel #rockbox [16:57:02] in case you have other rb-related questions [17:33:44] one more question specifically about EmCORE: i would like to support the people who made rockbox possible on ipod classic but cannot find a Donate link on the site; could you please help on this? [18:19:14] <[7]> xh: the freemyipod project doesn't have its own donation fund so far [18:19:53] <[7]> the rockbox donation fund has paid for some of our hardware expenses though, so you might want to consider donating to that [18:31:36] ok, but i wanted to donate to the devs that worked specifically on porting to ipod classic [18:32:13] ..because i... love apple :) [18:34:05] in fact i do admire them for the innovation they bring, but i also admire the people who helpe others out of jail :) [18:36:42] a paypal email address would do fine, if available [18:51:25] alright, i have used the donate button on the main rockbox site; i hope some of it will go into developing and polishing the classic port; a big thank you to all you guys! have a good daynight! [19:16:33] <[7]> xh: thanks on behalf of the rockbox team :) [20:24:13] *** Quits: Mix0r (~Mix0r@s83-180-255-158.cust.tele2.se) () [21:43:13] *** Joins: Mix0r (~Mix0r@s83-180-255-158.cust.tele2.se) [22:10:58] *** Joins: benedikt93 (~benedikt9@unaffiliated/benedikt93) [23:17:13] *** Quits: benedikt93 (~benedikt9@unaffiliated/benedikt93) (Quit: Bye ;))
