It has brought tears to my eyes to be able to carry around and listen to all of my FLAC files on the subway. [01:35:35] <[7]> that's what we like to hear :) [01:36:19] <[7]> (even though I have some doubt whether anyone would be able to tell the difference between FLAC and MP3 with all the subway noise in the background...) [02:37:53] *** Joins: [Saint] (~saint@rockbox/user/saint) [04:19:28] Subways require an extra turn on the volume knob. Audiotechnica headphones offer pretty good isolation, but it's still a hassle. At home, I have this idea to build a dock with a 15-inch touchscreen, Raspberry Pi board and USB DAC. It would be the ultimate jukebox, now that all of my tunes are mobile. Would Rockbox allow me to access the albums and songs via USB so that I can display them on the touchscreen? [04:25:11] <[Saint]> Of course. When mounted, Rockbox behaves exactly as a "dumb removable storage device" [04:26:05] <[Saint]> I'm not sure what you're planning on doing, exactly, though. [04:26:39] <[Saint]> Are you talking about using Rockbox on the RasPi natively, or, plugging a Rockbox'ed DAP into the RasPi and accessing the files in this manner? [04:26:47] <[Saint]> atldaveed: ^ [04:27:00] I am so used to the stupid Apple ecosystem, I didn't think about the removable storage option. [04:27:28] <[Saint]> It would make far more sense to run Rockbox on the RasPi natively as an SDL application. [04:27:54] I would like to plug the Rockbox-enabled iPod into a USB dock [04:28:32] [Saint]: I can look into that option. [04:28:56] <[Saint]> Dock support is very flakey, it would be best to negate the dock and just use a USB cable. [04:29:21] <[Saint]> BUt, it would be better still to run Rockbox on the RasPi natively. [04:30:28] <[Saint]> Assuming you're using, or have access to, and linus based operating system, you may want to consider looking at this: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/LinuxSimpleGuideToCompiling [04:30:32] I was hoping to hang the touchscreen on the wall and have the dock be there so I can plug my iPod in there when I get home. [04:31:10] <[Saint]> Well, it may work, but dock support is hit and miss. [04:31:49] That may not be the way to go after all [04:31:49] <[Saint]> The IAP (iPod Accessory Protocol) is not well known, and as a result, some docks just don't work at all or work in an undesireable fashion. [04:32:32] <[Saint]> You can get some information about accessories known to work, or work partially, here: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IpodAccessories [04:33:50] Thanks, I will look at all of this and report back. [04:34:04] <[Saint]> Is your RasPi the A or B model? [04:34:14] <[Saint]> (as in, do you have the option for wired networking?) [04:34:57] I ordered the RasPi last week, along with the touchscreen [04:35:12] I do have the option of wired networking, yes. [04:35:50] <[Saint]> What I would do, is compile an SDL build for the RasPi and run Rockbox on it natively (taking advantage of the built-in touchscreen support and theme engine) and then use it to access my media from a local media server via a wireless dongle or wired networking directly. [04:36:40] …and I can use the iPod as a dumb USB storage device when I plug it in, right? [04:37:00] <[Saint]> Sure. [04:37:27] Great! Thanks for your help. [04:37:32] <[Saint]> Not a problem. I have an Ipod Classic 6th Generation that I just purchased. Turns out that the person had installed an experimental version of RockBox on it, and I am having issues getting my Windows 7 based pc to recognize it. At this point I'd even be happy to restore it back to its original apple state, however this has proved troublesome as Itunes cannot rocognize it in [21:19:05] *** Quits: JohnAlbane (43ab17c4@gateway/web/freenode/ip.67.171.23.196) (Quit: Page closed) [22:01:52] *** Joins: liar (~liar@clnet-p09-185.ikbnet.co.at)
