[09:14:40] I am following this guide to get emCORE on my iPod Classic 7g (160GB) http://www.freemyipod.org/wiki/EmCORE_Installation/iPodClassic/UMSboot [09:15:23] I have followed it to the tee, but am having troubles getting my computer, running Win7 64bit to mount the 64mb volume [09:16:22] I do have UMSBoot displayed on my iPod's screen, and my computer has recognized the connected device. It shows up in Devices & Printers. [09:17:30] Upon viewing the properties for the UMSBoot device in Devices & Printers, I can see that it recognized the volume, but cannot mount it. [09:17:50] Am I overlooking something simple? I have tried it four times thus far, with the same issue each time. [09:18:25] It has been done with iTunes installed and uninstalled, with drivers installed for the iPod via iTunes and once with drivers installed via Windows Update. [09:23:06] <[Saint]> it's a known bug that on some machines it can take ~10min to mount the volume. [09:23:35] <[Saint]> iirc, it states that in the instructions. but if it is taking considerably longer, chances are it /probably/ isn't gonna happen. [09:26:30] I thought that issue was Linux-only? [09:26:49] and yeah, been about 20 minutes, this most recent go-around [09:28:11] <[Saint]> You don't have access to a linux based machine/vm, do you? [09:30:33] I'm actually planning on repartitioning and tossing Debian on this machine tonight, just to try it out on Linux. [09:30:36] <[Saint]> even a LiveCD is fine, you only need to install a handful of things and it all gets blown away when you reboot. [09:30:45] THat and dev work is just so much more conveniant on it [09:30:58] <[Saint]> you could also use Ubuntu's Wubi installer [09:31:20] <[Saint]> that removes the need for partition at the cost of slightly reduced performance due to the loopback fs used. [09:31:40] <[Saint]> but it installs alongside the Windows OS. [09:31:46] <[Saint]> Some find that more convenient. [09:33:49] <[Saint]> It's quite offtopic to the situation, but I use Ubuntu 12.10 as the host OS, and I usually have an XP/7 vm running in integrated mode so I can treat it as a blend of the two operating systems seamlessly. [09:34:12] <[Saint]> it eats RAM and CPU though. [09:34:33] I used to do that, though in reverse, with Mint [09:35:16] <[Saint]> It's funny seeing people sit down and be all like, hum...start bar *and* unity...wha? [09:35:36] The CPU/RAM issue is hardly important with this new rig I am running, though I like to keep things simple, separate work and play. Adds a bit of a wall between all of those time wasters that make me have to run all nighters to finish up contracts [09:36:18] "Whoa, how'd you get Photoshop to work in Mint?" [09:36:58] <[Saint]> Wine can kinda do it, with hilarious results. [09:38:18] I never even thought to try, I assumed it was too complex a program for Wine to handle gracefully [09:38:48] What sort of issues did it have? [09:38:58] I can only imagine what the filters resulted in [09:39:13] <[Saint]> It's popular enough that the holes get plugged as they're discovered. But Wine always seems to be a losing battle of fighting program updates. [09:39:41] <[Saint]> Its primarily terribly slow, but it does work, mostly. [09:39:58] <[Saint]> ...anyway ;) [10:00:03] *** Quits: acostoss (4c65199f@gateway/web/freenode/ip.76.101.25.159) (Ping timeout: 245 seconds) [11:44:00] *** Joins: TheSeven (~quassel@rockbox/developer/TheSeven) [20:31:28] *** Joins: [Saint_] (~saint@rockbox/user/saint) [20:32:37] *** Quits: [Saint] (~saint@rockbox/user/saint) (Ping timeout: 272 seconds) [21:20:40] *** Quits: STeeF (~STeeF@office.hostnetbv.nl) (Quit: Leaving)
