Quick question: is it possible to update the Rockbox version installed in my 1G Classic? I can't seem to be able to replace the previous version installed by emCORE. [09:23:03] <[Saint]> What do you mean "can't seem to replace it"? [09:23:25] <[Saint]> Rockbox Utility has support for the Classic, and can update it trivially. [09:23:47] <[Saint]> Failing that, extracting a newer binary to the root of the device is all it takes to update Rockbox. [09:24:27] I've tried to replace the .rockbox folder in the root of my device. [09:24:44] <[Saint]> http://build.rockbox.org/data/rockbox-ipod6g.zip <-- extract this to the root of the device [09:25:22] <[Saint]> It can't "not work" unless you're doing something incorrectly somehow. [09:25:48] <[Saint]> Or, if you're just "updating" with an identical binary. [09:26:45] <[Saint]> If you are unsure in any way, simply use the utility: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/RockboxUtility [09:28:09] Vesion: 189148e-130127, yay [09:28:16] RockboxUtility did the trick [09:28:17] Thanks! [09:28:23] <[Saint]> Not a problem. [09:28:34] You've been very helpful.. have a nice day, everyone :) [09:28:50] <[Saint]> Incidently, if you lie to it and tell it the device is an iPod Video, you can also install themes etc. [09:28:50] *** Quits: DivideBy0 (5710f5e1@gateway/web/freenode/ip.87.16.245.225) (Quit: Page closed) [09:47:58] *** Joins: STeeF (~STeeF@office.hostnetbv.nl) [09:47:59] *** Joins: slenselink__ (~STeeF@office.hostnetbv.nl) [09:48:18] *** Quits: slenselink__ (~STeeF@office.hostnetbv.nl) (Client Quit) [15:49:09] *** Quits: [Saint] (~saint@rockbox/user/saint) (Quit: Quit) [16:10:39] *** Joins: [Saint] (~saint@rockbox/user/saint) [18:29:10] *** Quits: [Saint] (~saint@rockbox/user/saint) (Remote host closed the connection) [18:31:26] *** Joins: [Saint] (~saint@rockbox/user/saint) [19:36:11] *** Quits: [Saint] (~saint@rockbox/user/saint) (Read error: Connection reset by peer) [19:38:19] *** Joins: [Saint] (~saint@rockbox/user/saint) [21:08:20] *** Joins: [Saint_] (~quassel@101.98.158.103) [21:08:44] *** [Saint_] is now known as Guest88639 [22:22:55] *** Joins: dvnce (4c62f542@gateway/web/freenode/ip.76.98.245.66) [22:23:05] hello [22:23:24] <[Saint]> Hi, if you have a question, just ask. [22:24:35] ty [22:24:48] i'm trying to install rockbox on my 7th gen ipod classic 160 thin [22:24:51] i got to this step [22:24:53] Run bootstrap_ipodclassic.exe Your iPod should now turn on and connect a 64MB drive called "UMSboot". If it doesn't, please ask for support. [22:25:03] and i'm not getting a 64MB boot drive [22:25:16] i did get a small text window on the ipod LCD that said UMSboot was loaded though [22:25:19] <[Saint]> What OS? [22:25:27] but a volume never mounted [22:25:30] windows sev [22:26:37] <[Saint]> Hum...I don't have much experience with the Windows installation methods. [22:26:52] <[Saint]> If you are able to wait around, someone who does may answer. [22:27:22] <[Saint]> Alternatively, if you have access to a linux based machine, you can try that (almost guaranteed to work). [22:31:00] i guess i could do it on my mac [22:31:42] gonna try on the PC once more [22:31:47] ty though [22:32:32] <[Saint]> No problem. It is entirely safe to reboot the iPod at this point, you haven't let modified anything. [22:33:10] <[Saint]> Sorry I can't be of more help, but I haven't used Windows for anything more than playing games on Steam for ~2 years [22:39:13] n oworries [22:39:16] i got it working [22:39:33] i had the ipod connected to a usb port on my audio interface [22:39:39] so i moved it to a different one [22:40:46] <[Saint]> Aha, right. Front USB ports tend to be quite dodgy. [22:40:53] <[Saint]> for .
