Ive been using emcore and rockbox on my ipod classic 160 for awhile now and love it, but recently its started freezing, stopping me from listening to music or connecting it to my computer. This happened after I had updated rockbox, but still happens in fallback mode. I [01:44:43] I've lost my hdd that has my library on it and now the ipod is the only place where all of my music is and I really need to get it off. Any suggestions? [01:47:16] To clarify, emcore works fine and does not freeze. Its only after being in rockbox for a few seconds that it freezes. [01:48:17] phimath: so you say that rockbox freezes a couple of seconds after starting up no matter what you do? [01:48:30] no matter whether USB is connected or not? [01:49:35] correct [01:49:59] the build i updated to wasnt one of the most recent builds though [01:51:04] you updated all of .rockbox, not just rockbox.ipod, right? [01:51:16] right [01:51:22] did you remove the old .rockbox directory first, or just replaced any conflicting files? [01:51:45] did the freezing start right on the first reboot after updating, or only at a later point? [01:52:27] rigth away after updating, and i did not remove the old directory first. looking back i can see what a shit idea that was [01:53:23] no, that is actually how it is supposed to work [01:53:31] otherwise you'd lose your configuration [01:53:34] oh [01:53:45] did you use rockbox's music database/library feature? [01:54:23] in the past i have tried to build it, but have never used it, although i can not recall if i did that before it started crashing [01:54:37] ok, try clearing the database from emcore's tools menu [01:54:47] just to get that possible cause out of the way [01:55:01] ok, and just to be sure that only clears the database and not the music files? [01:55:10] yes [01:55:23] as a next step, if that didn't help, try clearing rockbox's configuration as well [01:56:52] i think that did it! [01:57:11] awesome, thank you so much! [01:57:47] what might have caused this? is it the build i am using or too much music or bad tags? [01:58:04] apparently whatever build you used apparently contains an incompatible database format change or something like that, which made it cock up [01:58:34] do you reccomend using the newest daily builds? i have not been able to find a list of stable or production builds or the like [01:58:59] we currently do not really have a recommended build... they just have different kinds of flaws [01:59:25] alright, well thank you so much for you help [01:59:34] the build that ships with emcore is fairly old and has general stability issues (freezes every couple of hours etc.) and a bit higher power consumption [01:59:50] recent builds are better in that area, but have massive USB stability problems [02:00:11] making it basically impossible to transfer files using them [02:00:15] yeah thats why i chose the one im using, because its supposed to always connect to the computer [02:00:36] the fallback image should work well for transferring files [02:00:53] that's why some people use a recent autobuild for playing music and the fallback image for transferring files [02:14:36] *** Quits: phimath (47e5304c@gateway/web/freenode/ip.71.229.48.76) (Quit: Page closed) [03:54:52] <[Saint]> database formathasn't changed in *years*.
