I successfully installed emCore and Rockbox on my 160g (fat) iPod Classic. I then upgraded Rockbox to version 3.12. Everything worked well. Then yesterday I tried to upgrade to 3.13, and now it will not load the Rockbox image, and when it loads a fallback image instead I cannot connect to my computer with USB. [20:40:02] So I have 2 questions: do I need to reformat the partition through emCore's main menu? And did something go wrong or does 3.13 not run on emCore? [20:45:34] Tadrakyn: there's no official 3.13 for classic, you may have uploaded a wrong file if you are sure that it's 3.13 [20:46:02] i'm using 3.13 RC on my ipod (rockbox updated using rockbox utility), and it works fine so far [20:46:09] I used the 3.12 for Video (I think at least) and it worked [20:46:22] you used a Video build on a Classic? [20:46:36] Not 100% sure, but I know I had 3.12 on there [20:47:05] well, as i explained, there are no official builds (with versions like 3.x) for classics [20:47:21] there are only nightly/rc/development ones [20:48:01] this is the most recent build you can get on a classic: http://build.rockbox.org/data/rockbox-ipod6g.zip [20:48:19] it's not stable, but it contains the most recent patches and features [20:48:40] the file at this url updates when a change to rockbox is made [20:48:47] I think that is what I was using up until yesterday, I'm just dumb [20:48:55] now, on how to recover: [20:48:58] Thanks for clearing that up [20:49:04] menu - tools - rockbox fallback image [20:49:16] this one should load, but it can be used only for file transfer [20:49:22] it won't play music or videos [20:49:37] connect your ipod to a computer, then delete the .rockbox folder on it [20:49:49] open the link i posted above, then extract it on the ipod [20:50:09] safely remove/eject the ipod, then it would ask to load the new firmware [20:50:20] press Select, and it's ready [20:50:48] I'm trying it now, but earlier today when I tried that for some reason my computer never recognized the ipod [20:50:59] it happens sometimes [20:51:31] it could be fixed by using a rear usb port (in case of a desktop/tower pc), or a different usb port (laptops) [20:51:55] also try waiting about 10-15 seconds after booting rockbox, then connect the cable [20:52:18] or until the disk icon disappears from the status bar on the top of rockbox [20:55:09] Just tried all of the above and it finally worked. Thank you so much! I really didn't want to have to sync all that music again [22:57:16] so people indeed install ipod video builds on an ipod classic? [22:57:25] I'd imagine that the rockbox utility would refuse to do that [22:57:47] or at least produce a big fat warning and force you to manually override the device type [22:58:46] TheSeven: but you still can't stop people who do it manually :) [22:59:30] sure [22:59:47] maybe we should call our binary rockbox.ipod6g so that it just doesn't clash with a wrong build [22:59:55] i remember once a guy who installed a nano2g build over an ipod 4g build on a nano4g, hoping it would work [23:00:13] lol [23:51:35] *** Quits: [Saint] (~saint@rockbox/user/saint) (Ping timeout: 252 seconds) [23:52:19] *** Joins: [Saint] (~saint@rockbox/user/saint)
