[15:26:57] I already have the latest EmCORE installed on my iPod Classic, but I'm having some issues and want to try an earlier version. [15:27:04] So, when I run UMSboot via the iPod on Windows 8, the ramdisk is recognized, but the volume doesn't mount. It does try to get mounted, since I do see the green progress bar in explorer by my computer, but it takes forever and can even cause File Explorer to crash. [15:27:13] Since I'm already running EmCore, I did manage to get the volume mounted once, but I think that was just luck. Besides, the copying of the .ubi file was rather buggy. [15:27:21] 've tried a dozen times now, but I can't get it to mount properly again. I've tried both methods: via the iPod Classic, Run UMSboot option, and through the exe on windows in recovery mode. The latest which doesn't seem to work anymore now that EmCore is already installed? Something about not recognizing chosen file path. [15:27:31] I also tried mounting the volume on MacOS which worked perfectly, but there I have another issue. I can mount the volume just fine, but when I copy a .ubi file of an earlier EmCORE version to it, I get a message on the iPod, when disconnected, that I cannot use more than 1 .ubi file, while I certainly only copied one. [15:27:36] In conclusion: my USB connection is rather buggy on both platforms and was wondering if I'm doing something wrong? On Windows it seems like a driver issue? [15:57:41] Frederik: We don't really know what's happening on windows lately, something must have been changed from Microsoft's (or maybe Apple's, if you have itunes installed?) side [15:58:22] MacOS is known for creating several garbage files on every drive that it touches, it's quite possible that any one of those also contains ".ubi" in its name [16:50:12] So this is a Windows 8 specific issue? [16:50:31] Should I retry on Windows 7, first without iTunes then with? [16:51:15] As I understand it, this seems to be a common issue? [17:24:12] I will try what I said above. If I have succes, I'll post it here. Havn't tried W7. Also having iTunes installed or not doesn't make a difference. [22:13:34] Final question: I'm using an iPod Classic with a SD card. EmCORE installs fine, but when I get to falling back to Rockbox image to install Rockbox, I get the following panic: ATA: Error 80000000 while reading BBT. Is there a workaround known? Also, when I go from stock firmware to EmCORE, I don't get any errors. But, when I have EmCORE already installed and try to flash another version of EmCORE, I get the same error. [22:15:04] Frederik: thanks for providing that valuable piece of information [22:15:14] so we're indeed with a Win7/Win8-only problem here... [22:15:57] and that BBT thing sounds like a timing problem [22:17:04] the adapter probably signals that it's ready as soon as it is powered, but the card isn't ready to accept commands yet, so the first access to the card will cause something to time out [22:33:58] Thank you. I suppose I will have to stick with the regular firmware and convert my music to ALAC instead then. [22:45:49] Frederik: well, if you want to compile the code yourself, you could try to nail down cause of the trouble and post a fix for it [22:46:03] if it doesn't break anything else, it would likely be accepted [23:26:48] I probably wouldn't know how But thanks for answering my questions.
