[19:29:17] Hrm... read twice ask once. Question is this: Installed custom DFU driver on windows 8.1. Boot into DFU mode and the bootstrap grabs the ipod fine. Load the ubi file and eject then the ipod goes to a series of vertical lines and is unresponsive. [19:31:06] I can restart the ipod back to the standard OS without issue, but that gets me no closer to getting an EmCORE and Rockbox install. Any suggestions? Hoping for some help with a 6G classic install. EmCORE is hanging with an Undefined Instruction fault after I eject the drive. Suggestions? [22:22:53] all of that sounds like a corrupted .ubi file [22:23:26] however we had quite a bunch of this kind of reports lately, many of which happened on windows 8 systems [22:23:42] Ya... 8.1 here. [22:23:48] we don't really understand why this is happening for some people yet, as none of the developers can reproduce it [22:23:59] you might have better luck with a windows 7 system [22:24:14] or linux, which is what developers typically prefer [22:24:39] how exactly are you ejecting the drive? [22:24:49] from the system tray icon, or from explorer? [22:24:54] does that make a difference? I have noticed it will force the native ipod software to fully reset tho. [22:28:45] As in goes back to the language selection... but in any event, I'll see if I can find a win 7 box to try this on. I'll report back if that works. [22:29:09] Thank for your time... good to know at least I am not alone in this XD [22:29:16] what exactly causes it to go back to the language selection? just ejecting it (running the apple firmware) from win8? [22:29:40] that seems like a symptom of corruption of the contents of the .iPod_Control folder [22:30:20] Hrm... been working on this all afternoon. I have done multiple restores thru itunes to ensure there is not other corruption. [22:30:46] this suggests that win8 might be doing some weird things in general with usb storage devices [22:30:47] I am going to assume the HDD is not corrupt, but that should not be exactly relevant to the install issues, correct? [22:31:04] the HDD doesn't play a role in the umsboot process [22:31:22] so it's more like the USB storage drivers of win8 are messing something up [22:31:29] or possibly the FAT file system drivers [22:32:36] Am I correct that there is not a bootstrap method for OSX to drop off the ubi file? [22:33:47] OSX seems to have even more trouble with it [22:33:53] not quite sure why either [22:37:01] Hrm. Well, I guess I'll figure out how to dual-boot ubuntu onto this machine and give it a try there. [22:39:11] Again, appreciate your time and I'll report back. If a linux install works then I think I can add another bit of evidence that windows 8 is the culprit. [22:41:06] *** Quits: Dooder (b200c08c@gateway/web/freenode/ip.178.0.192.140) (Quit: Page closed)
