Stock fw is ok. Any chance this is an emCore issue, or should I look more to Rockbox on this one? Thanks! [17:15:28] for reference, it looks like the same error as shown here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/532426/ipod-classic-rockbox-its-happening/2130#post_9141143 [18:08:45] technerd: this is an issue with both emcore and rockbox [18:09:03] they basically share their disk driver [18:09:18] someone already sent me one of those adapters and I'm looking into it [18:09:25] I'm in contact with tarkan as well [18:28:30] in the meantime, try cards from a different brand [18:28:43] this seems to mostly affect sandisk cards, most other brands work just fine [19:10:46] that's cool, I wondered if it might be the card/brand.. might be worth it to try another, but I'll probably end up getting another back case for it too, lol. Thanks for the heads up! [19:21:19] technerd: I'm going to package up a testing build which might possibly fix this soon (I hope before next weekend) [19:26:06] nice, I'd be interested in giving it a shot before opening up the device again [19:27:08] being that the disk driver is "shared" as you mentioned, would the build include a corresponding rockbox to go with? [19:27:31] or, would the most recent builds share the driver via emcore? [19:34:31] no, you need to replace both [19:34:41] it's just the source code that they share [19:38:30] makes sense. exciting that you may have a solution! I look forward to knowing if it works :) [19:41:43] I basically fixed a bunch of subtle bugs of which I'm not sure that they are related, but it mysteriously started to work at least intermittently recently [19:51:52] That is interesting. Very odd that these specific cards seem to be the most trouble. They must be less tolerant of the adapter, or be at borderline of the specifications needed. [19:52:54] the behavior suggests that the adapter firmware hangs while trying to access the card, but only with emcore for some reason [19:53:26] the adapter firmware still responds to some basic requests like IDENTIFY, but just stays BUSY indefinitely when trying to access any sector on the card [19:57:14] indeed - It (emcore) seems able to format the storage, and access it for "install" of rockbox, but has trouble with the parts you mention [19:57:44] that's interesting, formatting used to fail on mine [19:57:58] however I only tried that as part of an update, not initial installation [19:58:24] which suggests that things might be behaving diffently if the adapter was initialized by the original firmware [19:59:18] formatting did fail for me as well a couple of times - it'd hang on that part, indefinitely. ....hmm.. yes, I did then try letting itunes 'restore' it enough to then re-try emcore / rockbox a few more times (with different versions) [20:05:27] technerd: http://theseven.homenet.org/~theseven/tmp/installer-ipodclassic.ubi [20:05:47] can you test if that installs the boot menu (including winter theme) properly, and if changed settings stick across a powerdown? [20:05:59] I still haven't ported the fixes to rockbox [20:06:07] so that probably still won't work [20:11:12] seems to survive a restart! nice addition of "disk mode" there - that was also an issue I was reading about that concerned me with having to do that *every time* to add music... this would be a VERY welcome addition! [20:11:24] oh yes, that's also worth a try [20:11:35] that disk mode relies on emcore's driver, so it should be working now [20:12:15] the proper solution to the "have to use fallback image for USB transfers" problem is fixing the driver, which is mostly finished [20:12:26] nice - it's showing up, but asking to be formatted (which I'd expect) [20:12:31] understandable [20:12:38] it shouldn't ask to be formatted... [20:12:47] try reformatting it from emcore's tools menu and check again [20:13:43] magic. [20:15:48] stuck on return to boot menu. when booting back this time, winter theme is gone [20:16:10] that's expected after formatting [20:30:20] gotcha. still a little unstable mounting - win 8.1 here. will be back in approx. 1hr. if you're still up for further chatting / experimenting. I very much appreciate your time and efforts!
