[00:15:50] I'm using Windows 7, did a iTunes restore of my Ipod Classic (6th gen), 80GB HDD, S/N: 8N752NZQYMV, Model MB147LL, Version 1.1.2 PC, with 74.2 Gb free, for Windows, using FAT32. I followed the video "How to enter DFU mode on iPod Classic" for 6th gen 80GB, & got an msg "UMSboot v0.2.1, Pls copy a UBI file to the mass storage device & safely eject it when done. If you booted this accidentally, press & hold "Menu" + "Delect" [00:17:29] so I copied "installer-ipodclassic.ubi" to UMSBoot (F:), ejected, saw the emCORE boot menu, & rebooted. It didn't boot to RB. I ran the RB Utility, ticked the Show disabled targets checkbox, Selected Apple -> Ipod Classic (6th gen), & succeeded in installing the RB Development version. But it boots up as an Apple ipod, not into RB. I notice 2 other files in the EmCORE Releases/r859, in iPod Classic section. [00:17:53] Should I have copied bootstrap-ipodclassic-r859-20120102.dfu to the UMSBoot (F:), or what do I do with ipodclassic- r859-20120102.dfu? What do I do with rockbox-ipodclassic-r31516-20120102.zip? They weren't mentioned in the EmCORE Installation/iPodClassic/DFUiTunes process instructions, nor in the EmCORE Installation/iPodClassic/UMSboot process instructions. Sorry for the long post, my email is dgrana713@hotmail.com. Th [00:18:49] dag_: you don't need those two files [00:19:05] ok [00:19:06] <[Saint]> The instructions don't mention them because they're not relevant to your case. [00:19:06] the .dfu file the linux equivalent of the boostrap exe file [00:19:13] <[Saint]> If they were, we'd mention it. [00:19:21] ok [00:19:31] the .zip file is a zipped rockbox build, i.e. an alternative to using the rockbox utility [00:19:33] <[Saint]> People get into all sorts of trouble by inventing the instructions as they go. [00:19:43] <[Saint]> And I have no idea how we could make it any clearer. [00:19:55] <[Saint]> FWIW: It sounds like you didn't eject properly [00:19:58] from what you say it sounds like you didn't actually complete the installation, but rebooted the ipod while it was showing the installer splashscreen [00:20:11] <[Saint]> Or that, yes. [00:20:26] dag_: there was some long, scrollable text, right? ;) [00:20:41] if yes, actually read it, it will tell you how to process ;) [00:20:46] proceed* [00:22:27] yes, I did read the emCORE boot menu, & I thought it told me to reboot using the Select + Menu [00:23:02] no, it doesn't. read it again ;) [00:23:16] it's not the emcore boot menu, but the installer welcome message that you saw [00:23:38] <[Saint]> Yeah - it definitely doesn't say that. [00:23:48] ok, what should I do now? [00:23:49] <[Saint]> What you did was essentially cancel the installation entirely. [00:23:59] <[Saint]> What you should do is follow the instructions. [00:24:02] <[Saint]> Carefully. [00:24:54] <[Saint]> No files have been affected on your device, if the installation doesn't complete or is aborted (as in your case), nothing on the device is changed. [00:25:12] <[Saint]> Start again from the beginning and read the instructions and prompts carefully before progressing. [00:26:06] enter DFU mode, copy the "installer-ipodclassic.ubi" to UMSBoot (F:), etc, correct? [00:26:54] <[Saint]> Exactly as the instructions state. [00:27:43] roger, wilco. I'll be more careful & thorough this time. Thanks for your help [00:28:49] do I need to log out, or just close this browser tab? [00:29:20] <[Saint]> Both are functionally equivalent. [00:29:36] <[Saint]> But were I you, I would stay until the installtion is complete. [00:30:26] ok, here goes, pls stand by [00:36:52] I enter DFU mode, but don't get a new USB device called "Apple Recovery (DFU) USB Driver" connecting to my PC [00:37:52] try a different USB port? [00:41:39] I have to quit, I need to travel to my Dad's house. I'll install later, after my dinner appt across town. Thanks for your help guys.
