I'm trying to install emcore to my 7th gen iPod and I'm stuck [11:51:49] I've gotten to the point where I copy the UBI file over to the iPod and then when I eject it, it says "Loading UBI file... Rearranging files.... Booting...." and then just hangs [11:53:40] JILost: please start over, it fails sometimes for unknown reason [11:53:54] reboot with menu+select, then retry the installation [11:55:50] I'm trying that nowand it appears that the UBI file isn't on the drive anymore (or at least it's not showing up in cmd.exe when I go to h: and do /dir) [11:57:44] I did "copy installer-ipodclassic.ubi h:" and then the /dir on h: lists the file, so I assume it went [11:58:55] ejected the ipod in explorer and now we're back to hanging on the "booting..." screen [11:59:16] this is the third time I've done this, am I missing something? [12:05:13] I just tried copying the file in explorer rather than the command prompt and still nothing [12:06:52] I don't understand why the file isn't copying [12:07:03] even though it claims to be [12:13:23] how do you eject the ipod? using Safely remove icon in system tray, or opening Computer and right-clicking on the drive, then selecting Eject? [12:14:07] the latter, I use Explorer [12:14:21] I'm using Windows 8 if that's relevant [12:14:57] the instructions said not to use the systray so I didn't :) [12:19:40] this time, when running bootstrap_ipodclassic_itunes.exe, I got Error 31, device not functioning [12:21:39] rebooted the ipod and now getting error 995 [12:21:51] that would explain files not copying [12:28:25] but the drive appears in explorer immediately after that error [12:32:13] if I try running bootstrap_ipodclassic_itunes.exe from explorer instead of the commandline, I get error 31 again [12:32:32] but the device appears immediately after that error too [12:32:41] I don't get it [12:45:02] oh I see, my computer never installed the recovery driver [12:45:11] how do I make it do that? [12:54:09] I reboot the ipod and the screen goes black like expected, but windows doesn't seem very interested in automatically installing the dfu driver or any other driver [13:00:25] *** Quits: JILost (62a60785@gateway/web/freenode/ip.98.166.7.133) (Ping timeout: 246 seconds) [13:06:50] *** Joins: JILost (62a60785@gateway/web/freenode/ip.98.166.7.133) [13:11:53] it's showing up in Devices and Printers as "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" but not showing up in explorer as a drive [13:15:52] after re-reading the instructions thoroughly, the problem seems to be with "The display of your iPod should now stay black, and a new USB device called "Apple Recovery (DFU) USB Driver" should connect to your PC. " [13:16:15] it doesn't connect to my PC, Apple Mobile Device USB Driver does [14:40:33] JILost: error 31 means it worked fine [14:40:51] you may not get anything on the ipod screen, just continue with the instructions [14:47:29] <[7]> UMSboot version? [14:47:40] <[7]> might be that old umsboot + win8 indexing service issue [14:56:32] *** Quits: goom (~go4m@cpe-66-25-153-174.satx.res.rr.com) (Quit: Leaving) [15:18:01] you say continue with the instructions, but the instructions specifically say to seek help if emcore isn't starting [15:18:33] when I eject the iPod I mean [15:21:16] *** Joins: JILost_ (62a60785@gateway/web/freenode/ip.98.166.7.133) [15:21:28] doh, momentarily disconnected [15:22:12] anyway the instructions say to stop and ask for help if emcore doesn't start booting on its own when I eject the ipod, so I -am- following instructions :) [15:22:52] *** Quits: JILost (62a60785@gateway/web/freenode/ip.98.166.7.133) (Ping timeout: 246 seconds) [15:30:20] *** Quits: JILost_ (62a60785@gateway/web/freenode/ip.98.166.7.133) (Quit: Page closed)
