[13:10:28] by emcore instructions i mean the uninstall instructions. when i turn on the ipod, i immediately get the white emcore "build" screen and then the 4 icons. i was hoping to get back to the apple logo and have itunes restore my ipod (classic, 7th gen). [14:23:18] pgw: just follow the instructions, disregarding what's on the screen [14:23:25] they always work [14:24:27] i'm sorry, but i assure you that i cannot produce an apple logo by pressing menu+select [14:26:09] when i slide the hold button, the ipod turns itself on and immediately displays the white emcore screen shortly thereafter followed by the 4 icons [14:32:11] pgw: you need to follow the instructions, in order to successfully uninstall emcore [14:32:31] the apple logo appears after you uninstall emcore, it's taking its place at the moment [14:32:56] so just follow them, and in the end it will appear, together with apple's original firmware [14:33:23] if you don't have itunes, there's a way to uninstall without it [14:36:49] please-please how do i unstall emcore manually? [14:37:56] http://www.freemyipod.org/wiki/Restore_iPod_without_iTunes [14:38:31] you can watch the video first, then i can help you if you get stuck during the instructions [14:38:37] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-nEXXv8_PY [14:39:14] the guide is for windows [14:49:09] thanks, let me try that. while i was waiting, i used the rockbox utility to uninstall rockbox. this presumably left me with the emcore bootloader. again, i could not produce the apple logo. i then reformatted the ipod from within win explorer. i'm still booting into emcore, and when i select the rockbox icon an error message shows up saying "no partition found" insert usb cable to fix. inserting a usb cable does noth [14:49:39] your message was cut after " inserting a usb cable does noth" [14:49:48] please resend the other half [14:50:39] back to the emcore bootscreen. fyi, the only way for my pc to recognize my ipod is to select the rockbox icon on the icon bootscreen. i'm assuming this is normal. [14:50:48] ok, first can you tell me if you want to use emcore+rockbox, or you want to go back to apple's firmware? [14:50:50] yes, it is [14:51:10] i want to go back to apple firmware [14:51:22] do you have itunes installed? [14:51:59] yes [14:52:09] great, just follow there instructions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_bIDtBohnE [14:52:13] then restore with itunes [14:52:23] it should be back to stock in a minute or two [14:52:29] these* [15:07:08] well, i keep rebooting into emcore. eventually, itunes showed an error message 1621 saying that an ipod had been detected but cannot be identified properly. please disconnect and reconnect again. i did, but to no avail. [15:10:54] it really sounds like itunes is trying to reconnect to the ipod. i'm afraid that the apple bootloader is gone. is that even possible? [15:44:21] pgw: yes, this is how we install emcore [15:44:40] we replace apple's bootloader with emcore, so in order to uninstall you need to enter DFU mode [15:44:59] which is a low-level firmware update mode, that cannot be deleted or replaced [15:45:19] looks like itunes still doesn't like the device, so you need to uninstall using the manual method [15:45:37] Restore ipod without itunes, the link i sent you earlier [16:12:15] i'm failing with the manual method at the point where my cmd window says "'python' is not recognized as an internal or external command..." where do i need to install python and which version? [16:15:28] i have installed v2.7, installed it in my (c:\root directory and windows does not recognize it. [17:03:54] i did get python to run, but the installation fails with "ImportError: no module named usb.core" [17:16:29] pgw: you need to install pyusb [17:16:40] go here: https://walac.github.io/pyusb/ [17:16:54] then download the archive, extract it [17:17:21] open cmd.exe, "cd" to the directory where you extracted it, and type [17:17:27] python setup.py install [17:17:35] you may need to run it as administrator [17:17:52] then the instructions should work [18:04:45] thanks very much for your help. that worked. unfortunately, i have to go now. i will continue to work on this tomorrow, hopefully you will let me impose on you again then. again, for now, thanks a lot. [18:18:14] no problem, just mention my nickname so i can receive a notification [19:52:30] *** Quits: pgw (d89ee67b@gateway/web/freenode/ip.216.158.230.123) (Quit: Page closed) [23:46:15] *** Joins: [Saint_] (~hayden@rockbox/staff/saint) [23:47:06] *** Quits: TheSeven (~quassel@rockbox/developer/TheSeven) (Disconnected by services) [23:47:15] *** Joins: [7] (~quassel@rockbox/developer/TheSeven) [23:54:39] *** Quits: [Saint] (~hayden@rockbox/staff/saint) (*.net *.split)
