[03:06:58] i've installed rockbox before, no problem. i'm having trouble getting emcore installed. i'm thinking it may be because i'm running windows 10. i get the ipod into umsboot when its in dfu mode [03:07:31] after ejecting, the ipod says loading ubi file..., rearranging files..., booting... and it stays frozen on booting. [03:08:36] had no problems before when i installed it. had to put the bootstrap_ipodclassic_itunes.exe into windows 7 compatibility mode to get it to load the umsboot drive. [03:25:34] thanks for getting back to me. [03:26:15] i've tried three: one found on tarkan.info, one found on the rockbox website and "installer-ipodclassic-r859-20120102.ubi" [03:26:40] also a "installer-ipodclassic-usbfixcandidate.ubi" [03:28:28] i don't know how to distinguish them other than their respective sizes. i've found them various places on the internet. installer-ipodclassic.ubi;1062316, installer-ipodclassic-r859-20120102.ubi;982128, installer-ipodclassic-usbfixcandidate.ubi;717912 [03:30:48] i've tried safely removing then unplugging the cable. also using eject from "my computer" as i saw that fixed someone's problem on headfi.org [03:31:16] but it only results in the ipod freezing on "booting..." and not loading the emcore installer [03:32:41] bennimen: I'm not talking about the UBIs here, but about the UMSboot ("bootstrap") version, as shown on the iPod's LCD [03:33:09] if that's v0.1.x, the behavior that you're describing is a known issue with win8.0 and later [03:34:01] if that's the case, either use a UMSboot v0.2.x build, or try stopping the indexing service on your pc before starting UMSboot [03:36:20] aha, so it would seem i don't know how to change that. [03:37:13] thank you for helping me by the way. i really appreciate it. i'll see if i can figure out how to use a different build [03:38:20] if you have the time and want to point me in the right direction, that would definitely help me out a lot. [03:40:24] which bootstrapping method are you using? [03:40:27] itunes or non-itunes? [03:40:35] win8 or later I assume? [03:42:07] can you try opening a cmd window as admin and typing this? net stop wsearch [03:42:28] and then just boot the ipod back into DFU and try again [03:42:39] *** Quits: bennimen (425b6f7f@gateway/web/freenode/ip.66.91.111.127) (Ping timeout: 246 seconds) [03:43:13] *** Joins: bennimen (425b6f7f@gateway/web/freenode/ip.66.91.111.127) [03:43:17] which bootstrapping method are you using? I am installing the rockbook dual boot. I arrive to the final step requiring to send the following command: command prompt type: python ipoddfu.py dualboot-installer-ipod6g.dfu and then I receive the following message: "Connected to S5L8702 Bootrom DFU mode, USB version 1" Followed by: "Upload: .................... done". The iPod remains with the black, and when I reset, it does not load the d [23:02:46] It seems I am missing something.
