I am using a ipod clasic with rockbox on it, and it wont mount on windows 7 or linux. I have also tried using the fallback image to no success [06:41:35] im running r31516-120101 [06:42:53] <[Saint]> There's really absolutely zero reason why it should not mount under windows or linux, under the Rockbox install or fallback image. [06:43:07] <[Saint]> That really tends to point towards hardware. [06:43:14] <[Saint]> Most likely the host. [06:46:32] damn [06:46:42] i was hoping it wasnt hardware [06:47:05] it also will not mount when i ums boot [06:47:14] could it be a bad cable? [06:47:25] <[Saint]> Most definitely. [06:47:34] I'll try that next [06:47:36] thanks [06:47:50] <[Saint]> You're not trying to use USB3 ports by any chance are you? [06:48:04] <[Saint]> Or one of the shitty front case-mounted USB ports? [06:55:14] initially i was using front of case, then i tried back of case and then two different laptops [06:55:22] but i was using a third party cable [06:55:58] <[Saint]> It is highly possible that the cable doesn't even have data lines attached, given the behavior. [06:56:09] <[Saint]> Have you ever made a successful connection with this cable before? [06:56:21] you were right [06:56:29] i just found a apple cable [06:56:30] <[Saint]> It isn't obvious, but "charge only" cables do exist. [06:56:32] and it mounted [06:56:44] i dont know why charge only cables exist [06:56:44] <[Saint]> Aha. Sounds like you got a charge only cable. [06:56:46] very annoying [06:56:52] <[Saint]> They are indeed. [06:57:01] thanks for your help [06:57:28] <[Saint]> Not a problem. Weird Shit(TM) is sometimes difficult and non-obvious to diagnose. [07:00:13] i spent about an hour browsing the forums reading your responses haha [07:00:31] I'll have to remember Weird Shit (TM) for the future [07:00:52] <[Saint]> I've done the exact same thing before with one of my devices. [07:01:08] <[Saint]> I swore black and blue I threw out all my charge only cables. [07:01:11] <[Saint]> ...I didn't. [07:01:48] <[Saint]> A cable failing at being a cable wasn't something I considered in any of my debugging flows. [07:02:08] <[Saint]> As a result of this, it's almost always the first thing I check now when I have odd connectivity isssues.
