Today I found my iPod, and found out, that while I was in cryogenic sleep, the opportunity to install custom firmware on iPod was released. I decided to try, but stuck at "DFU device connecting" stage. [22:00:21] First i install AppleMobileDeviceSupport6464.msi from latest ver. of iTunes [22:02:19] Then, when i tried to instal DFU driver in auto-mode, windows told me that "The third-party INF does not contain digital signature information" [22:03:01] So i just turn this check off, and install driver [22:03:22] and right now im here - http://i.imgur.com/isQweEN.png [22:04:54] Drives is successfuly installed and i see this device in devise manager, but nothing in My PC [22:05:37] Hope you can help me, and sry for bad eng, not my native lang. [22:17:37] Spelendora: can you try an alternative installer, which is more recent and easier? [22:18:12] yep [22:18:16] Where i can get it? [22:18:49] http://files.freemyipod.org/~user890104/bootloader-ipodclassic-v8/RockboxBootloaderInstaller_iPodClassic_v8.exe [22:19:57] first press OK on the Rockbox warning screen [22:20:17] then select the "Show disabled targets" checkbox [22:20:35] Select Apple -> Ipod Classic [22:20:54] keep in mind that you need your ipod in normal mode, not DFU [22:21:11] so hold MENU+SELECT until it reboots, then let the buttons go [22:23:29] installing [22:25:09] ok, make sure you selected Bootloader [22:25:26] and Rockbox, of course [22:25:32] the other things are optional [22:25:57] Action required: Could not remount the device, try to do it manually. If the iPod didn't restart, force a reset by pressing SELECT+MENU buttons for about 5 seconds. If the problem could not be solved then click 'Abort' to cancel. [22:26:21] And in iPod - Cant load rockbox.ipod: File not found [22:26:52] did you hear any beeps from the ipod? [22:26:55] should i force reset (SELECT + MENU) [22:26:56] ? [22:27:03] ah, i know what happened [22:27:04] Yes, i heard 1 or 2 times [22:27:08] but now nothing [22:27:16] ok, so you have the bootloader installed [22:27:24] you just need rockbox [22:27:33] so, let me check something [22:27:39] and i'll tell you what to do next [22:27:47] Ok, tnx. Ill be here [22:28:08] what do you see on the ipod's screen? [22:29:59] Loading rockbox... Error! Cant load rockbox.ipod: File not found Hold MENU+SELECT to reboot then SELECT+PLAY for disk more [22:30:26] mode* but i have a problem. Play button is not working *_*. [22:30:30] ok, so hold down menu+select, and as soon as the ipod reboots, switch your fingers to select+play [22:30:32] ah... [22:30:45] :( [22:32:17] n oway to instal w/o play button? [22:36:36] there is a way, i just need to check something [22:38:39] ty mate, i can wait as long as i should [22:48:38] Spelendora: found a solution [22:48:45] hold down menu+select to reboot [22:48:58] then as soon as the screen goes black, release select [22:49:08] so just keep holding menu, until you see the apple logo [22:49:11] then release the button [22:49:43] done, now im in normal mode [22:49:46] and use Rockbox utility to install just Rockbox (unmark Bootloader) and optionally themes and fonts [22:50:16] once you do this, hold down menu+select again until the ipod reboots, then release the buttons [22:50:21] it should start rockbox [22:50:45] wow! it works! [22:50:52] so by default it will load rockbox, unless you hold down menu right after rebooting [22:51:17] if you're going to use only rockbox, you don't need itunes [22:51:33] you can just create a Music folder on the disk, then copy your music there [22:51:46] please use the original firmware for transferring files [22:51:58] usb in rockbox may work, but it could cause problems [22:52:07] so first switch to apple holding the menu button while rebooting [22:52:36] then transfer your music, eject the ipod and reboot it - it will load rockbox so you can listen to the newly uploaded tracks [22:52:53] if you have questions about rockbox, you can join channel #rockbox and ask there [22:54:38] Thank you a lot, mate, for your help. Im really happy to use Rockbox. [22:55:02] You can not even imagine how happy i am) [22:55:19] :) no problem, good luck [22:55:38] *** Quits: Spelendora (256e848f@gateway/web/freenode/ip.37.110.132.143) (Quit: Page closed)
