21:18 < Danny_> Just out of curiousity what are the differences between Emcore and Embios?  I know it's something to do with fragmentation.
21:19 < TheSeven> emcore has dynamic memory management, and will thus support running arbitrary applications at the same time (limited by available resources of course)
21:19 < TheSeven> embios was only using static memory allocations, so applications needed to be explicitly designed to allow running them in parallel with others

21:22 < TheSeven> it will be loaded to memory by emcore and then fully take over control
21:22 < TheSeven> the most noticable difference between embios and emcore will probably be additional eye candy :)
21:22 < TheSeven> and, well, you can uninstall by just restoring using itunes from dfu mode now
21:24 < Danny_> Alright, thanks... Isn't that sort of putting in an unnecessary middleman though?  Are there plans to develop EmCore into something that would be loaded on an ipod without Rockbox?  Or is it more of a way to manage multiple different operating systems, sort of like Grub would be on a computer?
21:25 < TheSeven> currently you can probably compare it with grub2
21:25 < TheSeven> however it might one day host other applications
21:26 < TheSeven> the whole point of developing embios/emcore was to share the operating parts between the installer, uninstaller and the boot menu

21:26 < TheSeven> and to have a nice debugging interface via usb while it's running :)
21:27 < Danny_> Ok.  So it's kind of like a boot loader.  It makes it easier for other people to develop on the platform, and makes it easier for the user to have multiple platforms running at the same time.
