Now, whenever i boot up the ipod, it states "Error: Can't load AUPD !". I can get it into ibugger, but i have no idea how to access the console. I have a mac with windows in vmware 23:11 < TheSeven> turn the hold switch off, press and hold menu+select, as soon as you notice the display changing immediately hold select + play 23:11 < TheSeven> I assume you didn't restore using itunes before copying the uninstaller? 23:12 < rhcp1253> yea, i didn't 23:12 < rhcp1253> YAY! DISK MODE! 23:12 < rhcp1253> thank you so much! 23:13 < TheSeven> why do people always skip this step? 23:14 < TheSeven> is there anything that isn't clean with those instructions? 23:14 < rhcp1253> o, apparently i did restore. It opened itunes saying it wants 2 setup the new ipod. Didn't follow through on that 1 23:16 < rhcp1253> now that i have access to the disk, can i do a complete restore completely removing iloader? 23:17 < TheSeven> you'll need to do a restore using itunes 23:17 < TheSeven> however, that won't uninstall iloader, it's just a prerequisite for uninstalling it 23:17 < TheSeven> after the restore completes, just copy the uninstaller files to it again to complete the uninstallation 23:19 < rhcp1253> i have the uninstallation files on the ipod nand right now. I'll just safely remove and see what happens. Worst is i have 2 do the same again 23:20 < rhcp1253> and what do u know? same problem. Ima restore 1 more time and see if that fixes anything 23:26 < rhcp1253> can i uninstall from ipodpatcher? 23:26 < rhcp1253> its not able to read the nand 23:36 *** scorche has quit IRC (Read error: Connection reset by peer) 23:37 *** scorche has joined #linux4nano 23:40 < TheSeven> hmm weird 23:42 < TheSeven> can you see the firmware partition in disk mode? 23:47 < rhcp1253> no, but that might be bc its a macpod. I'm restoring in vmware windows as we speak 23:48 < rhcp1253> and btw, how does ibugger fit into all this? 23:48 < TheSeven> hm, macpods should also have a firmware partition 23:48 < TheSeven> however, it might be a GPT partition table instead of the MBR format the uninstaller expects 23:48 < rhcp1253> yea, thats what i was thinking 23:49 < TheSeven> ibugger is our debugger stub for the samsung ipods 23:49 < TheSeven> norloader boots it if you turn the hold switch on while booting, to reduce the bricking risk 23:50 < rhcp1253> what can it do? is it a command prompt, or does it just execute code? 23:50 < TheSeven> norloader + iloader are rather simple and old, well-tested code that hopefully won't ever need to be changed again, and as long as this part is working, you can recover from anything. if norloader would fail, you would be really stuck. 23:51 < TheSeven> it's mostly intended to upload and run arbitrary code 23:52 < rhcp1253> ok, so its not of use to an end-user 23:53 < TheSeven> at least not directly 23:53 < rhcp1253> ok, i get ity 23:53 < rhcp1253> it 23:53 < TheSeven> in some cases, end-users needed to use it to fix some really bad things 23:53 < rhcp1253> like what? 23:54 < TheSeven> non-booting ipods, back when the iloader installer wasn't as stable as it is now 23:54 < rhcp1253> is it still in beta? 23:55 < TheSeven> there are still some ways to make it fail really ugly 23:55 < TheSeven> and as you have seen, the uninstaller is a mess 23:56 < rhcp1253> yea, it need a better way 2 uninstall. O, can i use "sudo ./ipodpatcher -d"? 23:56 < rhcp1253> or would that really screw things up 23:56 < TheSeven> it would probably just bail out, but it can't do any good 23:56 < TheSeven> you can't access the flash where iloader is stored via disk mode 23:56 < TheSeven> that's why we need that uninstaller 23:57 < rhcp1253> can i get an image of the original ipod flash? 23:57 < rhcp1253> i found the mbr on the rockbox server, but idk if thats what i need 23:57 < TheSeven> in case you have saved your norflash.bak file, yes 23:57 *** drostie has quit IRC (Remote host closed the connection) 23:57 < TheSeven> ah, you mean the bootflash or the firmware partition? 23:58 < rhcp1253> yea 23:58 < rhcp1253> idk where 2 get it 23:59 < TheSeven> any news on the attempt to restore using windows itunes? --- Log closed Sat Jul 03 00:00:04 2010
